i was just watching the History Channels FDR, a president revealed and it looks like Lucas stole another great speech in history and adapted it for Star Wars.

In FDR's 3rd inaguurational speech, he says something to this effect "I am grateful for your power, i love to see democracy prosper and live on, i will lead the nation with this power through the war"

Palpatine "I love Democracy, I love the Republic, when this conflict is over i will lay down the powers you have given me"

There are more than a few sayings IIRC that are rough knockoffs of real life. Take this:

There is nothing really wrong with this. For one thing, a person's imagination is limited and often based on real events. For another thing, great men in similar positions think similar thoughts, and it is hardly surprising that they would say similar thngs.
