Questions about New Jedi Order Ships
i just started reading Vector Prime, it's been so-so till now. But i have a few questions
What is the difference between a normal x-Wing and a XJ X-Wing
Also what are the specs of the Mon Cal Star Defender? Can any one provide a pic?

No pictures exist of the Star Defender. The NJO source book may have specifications, but if it does I've never heard them. However no one seems to have that book either. Though if it did have them I'm sure they would have made it online by now.
The improved X-Wing's main upgrades are stutter fire lasers, three more proton torpedoes, and shields that can't be as easily ripped away by Vong doval bassals

Fair amount of difference actually. I once saw a model someone made based on the descriptions, and it was quite a bit better looking. Instead of the 4 seperate engines, it had pairs connected as one main engine with 4 thrust things.
Assuming you want the XJ and not the XJ3...
It is 13 meters instead of the standard 12.5, and has a stronger hull. It packs 3 launchers with 3 torps each, and has heavy lasers instead of hte standard ones. It is now possibly the fastest ship they have (the X-AC4 was as fast as an A-wing circa ROTJ was and this is a generation beyond) and is on par with the latest E-wings for manuvering. It has MUCH less cargo space, only 25 Kg, and only 3 days of supplies as opposed to the weeks worth the other models had.
Now the XJ3, that is a badass.

The X-J X-Wing is slightly larger than the older models, is more powerful, has an additional, centrally mounted torpedo launcher with another three torpedoes, and is much faster than older models.

Basically, like the others, It quite a bit faster then an A-wing, one of the most manuverable ships out there, packs 12 heavy torps, has a double shield system, has the 4 heavy lasers, a stronger hull, has 35 KG cargo, is 12.6 meters long and might mount some active ECM depending on how you interperate certain NJO bits.
Easily gives the Defender a run for it's money in my opinion, and is going into full production.

I always preferred the N-1 for that mission. But the XJs are cool.anarchistbunny wrote:*drools over taking that thing for a spin on Rogue Leader's Endurance mission*

I just finished Vector Prime, it wasn't bad compared to other EU but killing chewie? thats criminal. the Vong's idea of using organic machines isn't original. I remember in the Jedi Accadamy trillogy that the Mon Cal's used jelli-fish as re-breathers under water. same with Organic Ships, that idea reeks of Nemisis from 2000AD.

Yeah well, with some exceptions I like how they pulled off the whole organic thingie.Darth Pounder wrote:I just finished Vector Prime, it wasn't bad compared to other EU but killing chewie? thats criminal. the Vong's idea of using organic machines isn't original. As for poor chewie, Lucas gave permission to kill him.
Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who did not.
Chewie was never well used by any author. It makes sense to kill him, particularily since what we got out of it was much better. Anyone who read the Chewbacca comic would be hard pressed to claim that was not a great book.

Only author that really bothered utilizing Chewie really was the guy who wrote the Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy...and we all know how much that was hated.

I don't like the N-1 for ship to ship combat but more like attacking larger targets. I find it too hard to hit a TIE with the centered lasers and keep up a good accuracy, which is why I like the X wings laser spread. I've accually take the two SD's in the Battle of Endor mission out with one life with the N-1, I was so fucking glad I was done with the level. Then I got Bobed by a Interceptor and lost. Pissed me the fuck off. I'd accually use the B-Wing more for ship to ship because it's so easy to shake off any following ships with it's brakes, but I get bobed all the damn time in it.Darth Yoshi wrote:I always preferred the N-1 for that mission. Zahn used him quite well in the Thrawn trilogy.Ender wrote:Chewie was never well used by any author. It makes sense to kill him, particularily since what we got out of it was much better. Anyone who read the Chewbacca comic would be hard pressed to claim that was not a great book.

I agree, the X-wing has a better hit rate, but in Endurance, you only need 8% accuracy for a Gold (that, and surviving all 1,846 enemy craft).anarchistbunny wrote:I don't like the N-1 for ship to ship combat but more like attacking larger targets. Not sure. Nobody is shown to use bowcasters since Chewie kicked the bucket.Raxmei wrote:Seeing Chewie and the Vong together in one thread brought a question to mind. How effective are bowcasters against Vong armor?

There's a reason for that. Chewie's character was never developed very well in the movies, and he acted as kind of a support and background character for Han. He was never there in important moments, and was more servile than anything else. Thus, during the books, when authors tried to use him as a main character, their efforts invariably failed. Unlike the other characters, he did not have a fixed personality or agenda from the movies themselves, and so he seemed to be sort of lackadaisical in the books.Ender wrote:Chewie was never well used by any author.
