ISD-I vs. other ships

I'm curious to see how many ships of these types everyone thinks that a standard Imperator-class mark 1 Star Destroyer can effectively do battle with at once and still triumph without major systems' efficiency being too dangerously comprimised. How long do the fights take and how easily will the ISD-1 trump its opponets? Thus my contestents are:

For Separatists:

TradeFed battleship

Recusant-class light destoyer

Munificent-class star frigate

General Grevious' Invisible Hand

Galactic Republic/Empire:

Carrack-class dreadnaught

Acclamator-class troop transport

Venator-class Star Destroyer

Victory-class Star Destroyer

Another ISD-I

Rebel Alliance:

Admiral Ackbar's Home One

MC-80a Star Cruiser

Yuuzahn Vong:

a single Worldship

a YV Grand Cruiser (the SSD sized ships)

I'm not sure about the rest. But wouldn't Grevious' Invisible Hand get really bruised knuckles trying to get into a punch up with an ISD-1? And could a turbo laser target an invisible hand?

It would take a long time, but I think just a single invisible hand would destroy the ISD-1.

The simplest way to do this would be to compare max reactor outputs, and where that information is lacking, compare the relative volumes. It leaves out a lot of information, such fighter loadouts, but it should be usable for quick and dirty comparisons.

Judging by physical mass alone, I would say that either of the Vong ships mentioned, The Invisible Hand, Home One, or another ISD could either destroy or comprimise a Star Destroyer.

*cracks fingers* Okay, this is just gonna be a series of quick-and-dirty guesses....
For Separatists:

TradeFed battleship
The TF battleship has the edge in bulk and perhaps reactor power. I haven't read the ICS in awhile though, so I'm not sure what kind of armament it has... IIRC a ring of medium (or heavy?) turbloasers around the equator.
Recusant-class light destoyer

Munificent-class star frigate

General Grevious' Invisible Hand
No idea on these ships, sorry...
Galactic Republic/Empire:

Carrack-class dreadnaught
ISD, easy. The Carrack is basically a light frigate, really; 'dreadnaught' is a serious exaggeration.
Acclamator-class troop transport
Again, ISD. It'll have some trouble because the Acclamator has some damn heavy guns, but it can take the fight...
Venator-class Star Destroyer
ISD. Don't know much about the Ven's capabilities, but IIRC it's more of a carrier than a battleship.
Victory-class Star Destroyer
ISD. It's got much more reactor power and definitely more powerful weapons, not to mention a significant edge in size.
Another ISD-I
:wtf:

Can I have some of what you're smoking?

More seriously, in this case, it comes down to the individual skill of the captains, the expertise of the crew, and the upkeep of the ship... very subjective factors.
Rebel Alliance:

Admiral Ackbar's Home One
IIRC, Home One is ~3km long, almost twice as long as an ISD. I reckon she's also got a fair bit of firepower too, so I'd wager 0-1 takes it.
MC-80a Star Cruiser
Uh... this is basically the same as Home One, I think... :?
Yuuzahn Vong:

a single Worldship
Depends on what the Worldship has on it...
a YV Grand Cruiser (the SSD sized ships)
No idea. Don't know that much about the YV.

The Invisible Hand is not a very massive ship. It is only 1088 meters long, 198 wide, and 347 tall (and much of that is those thin towers). It also has a hanger for 240 fighers and 440 heavy vehicles, which indicates that it devotes more space to hangar functions than an Imperator, despite its already smaller size. To top it off, the ship contains 1.5 million battle droids (although they are deactivated and thus probably in their compact, storage setup).

The superheavy guns of a Munificent-class Star Frigate should be able to take down an ISD in one hit, since they're pegged at roughly 66 million gigatons (ref: RotS:ICS). If they miss, though, the frigate has already lost, since the reload time for those guns runs in the hours, IIRC.

WHAT????????????????????????????????????????????????

I don't remember ever seeing a 66 million GT weapon on a SW capital ship.....

AFAIK none of the Clone Wars ships are particularly power on the gunfire front, excepting the superheavy gun frigate. ISD pwns all.

I'm even going to be unpopular and state that an ISD-I could rape an ISD-II, since it's got heavier guns, more armour, and different hanger arrangements.

The guns are said to be able to "blast-melt an ice-moon measuring 1,000 kilometers in diameter". According to this a moon like that takes roughly 6.6*10^7 gigatons to melt.

I wonder if two ISD-I's could take on:

1 Victory-SD
2 Old Republic Dreadnaugts
4 Carrack Cruisers.

The Victory class is far inferior in size, speed, and firepower to a single destroyer, as are the dreadnaughts. The Carrack cruisers are patrol/ anti-fighter ships, and wouldnt last very long against any real capital ship.

Edit: Crap, I misread the question.

If you mean all of them togther, then it might be a close fight, although with competant commanders, I still think the ISDs could pull through.

Going simply by the cubes of the length ratios...

A VSD is roughly .316 times the volume of an ISD.
A Dreadnaught is roughly .141 times the volume.
A Carrack is .048 times the volume.

Those ships above together amass less than a SINGLE ISD. Two ISDs would be massive overkill.

apparently an ISDII has better fire control than an ISD I, plus better shielding, armor, and speed. Really now, why would the Empire design a mk II that would loose to a Mk I?

Hawkwings wrote:Really now, why would the Empire design a mk II that would loose to a Mk I?
Perhaps a change in mission profile? The scarce, heavy guns of a mk I might be superior for combat with other similarly-sized ships, but against the small ships of the rebellion, more numerous but smaller guns might be called for.

Personally, I always felt that the Only real Differance between Mk-I and Mk-II is that #1 has 12 Über Heavy TurboLaser in 6 Turrets. And Mk-II has 64 Normal Heavy TurboLasers in 8 Turrets.

Really the only thing to Debate is the true strength of the Mk-IIs TurboLasers.

Acclamator-class troop transport

Home One

Mon Cal
Yuuzahn Vong:

All this based off reactor outputs. Obviously, tactics could throw it the other way in a few cases (Star frigate, star destroyers, MC80)

TradeFed battleship
The Trade Fed Battleship shows 12 batteries of three guns (quads) around the center of the ship and 2 more batteries (perhaps 4 with two ventral) on the aft end of the ship mounted on the engine block. The datapad thingy say's there's 42 individual guns, so I missed one.

That's 42 individual quad guns space through out the ship. Unfortunately, these guns are labeled "Quadlasers" and not "Turbo-" so its possible that they are under powered and since the Trade Fed Battleship is really a converted freighter, this seems likely.

The heavy guns of the ISD will tear it up while the quadlasers will not be up to the task of defeating the ISD's military shields.
Recusant-class light destoyer
The ICS says that 4 to 6 of these destroyers can take on a Venator. So unless an ISD is remarkable underclassed by a Venator, a Recusant class destroyer has zero chance against an ISD.

That said, it is listed as having 6 HTL turrets and 4 HTL cannons. This would seem slightly more than the HTL turrets on an ISD, but since it takes 4 to 6 of these things to take on a Venator, perhaps the HTL's are not rated as high as other HTL's. Reactor output would go with that as well.
Munificent-class star frigate
The poor thing only is listed with 2 heavy turbo lasers. Sorry, not a chance in hell of it beating up an ISD.
General Grevious' Invisible Hand
The Invisible Hand will suffer with it's lack of heavy turrets and weapons too. It does have a heavy assortment of torpedo tubes, so a good armament of heavy anti ship missles might put it in the league of an ISD. But the IH seems more like an armored carrier than an actual ship of the line.
Galactic Republic/Empire:

Carrack-class dreadnaught
When the hell was the Carrack a dreadnaught? THe poor thing is way under armed and under powered to take on a SD.
Acclamator-class troop transport
Interestingly enough, I think the Acclamator might hold its own. In a defensive way, of course. The thing was built to survive orbital defenses and delieve its payload of troops. I think an Acclamator might be able to absorb quite a few broadsides from an ISD.

It's heavy guns will give the ISD commander something to think about in a way that the other ships mentioned here so far can't.

Ultimatley, the Acclamator will lose since it can't deal out as much damage as an ISD, but it will take a bit.
Venator-class Star Destroyer

Victory-class Star Destroyer
Both are underpowered compared to the ISD. Like the Acclamator, both these ships were designed to go 'mano a mano' but the ISD will get them in the end with more power through heavier guns.
Another ISD-I
ISD #1 Captained by James T Kirk and ISD #2 Skippered by Jean-Luc Picard.
Rebel Alliance:

Admiral Ackbar's Home One
Home One was the large super Mon Cal ship. Mon Cal ships were suppost to be hard as hell to kill, with really good shielding. With the larger ship, and supposedly more power, Home One should be able to out pound an ISD.
MC-80a Star Cruiser
Meh, with all the reasons above, I give em a close chance to do it. They supposedly don't have as much heavy armament as the ISD but have better defensive shields and shit.
Yuuzahn Vong:

a single Worldship

a YV Grand Cruiser (the SSD sized ships)
Super Ships, so ISD looses.

The poor things are designed as flying guns with an alpha strike powerful enough to one-shot-kill absolutely anything short of an Executor-Eclipse. If it fails the Alpha Strike, the frigate is toast, but it has a chance (exactly one chance).

Higher output, more guns... and bigass blind spots for the ISD to sit in. Seriously, what moron of a commander would merrily sit right on the ring's centerline?

ISD-I has more extensive hull plating, though. But enough of my hijack!

TradeFed battleship

Destroyer equivalent variants presumably equiped with heavy turbolasers do exist; but they only have about a third the power of and ISD I.

winner: ISD I

Recusant-class light destoyer

You need 4-6 of these to match a Venator. It would take 16-18 to match an ISD I.

winner: ISD I

Munificent-class star frigate

At least 40 times less powerful than an ISD I, but pack a huge ass seige cannons.

winner: ISD I - unless the captain is stupid beyond words.

General Grevious' Invisible Hand

Way underpowered as they stripped a good deal of the reactors and machinery from the ship. It does however have 180 captial scale proton torpedo tubes. A stock Providense class Star Destroyer is probably a match for a Venator.

winner: ISD I

Carrack-class crusier

Not even a Star-class vessel.

winner: ISD I

Acclamator-class troop transport

Its a transport, and its 60-100 times less powerful.

winner: ISD I

Venator-class Star Destroyer

Good Shielding and weapons, and hundreds of fighters. But only has about a third of the ISD reactor power.

winner: could go either way, most likely the ISD.

Victory-class Star Destroyer

Good Shielding and weapons, 80 capital scale proton torpedo tubes. But only has about a 30-50% of the ISD reactor power.

winner: could go either way, most likely the ISD.

Another ISD-I

Would depend on surprise and tactics.

Home One

She's a Star Cruiser!

winner: Home One

MC-80a

Equivalent to a Star Destroyer in firepower, better shields, better trained starfighters.

winner: MC-80a

a single Worldship

The name says it all.

winner: Worldship

YV Grand Cruiser

100 ISD I could do it maybe....

winner: Grand Cruiser

That said anyone can be beaten depending to the situation, tactics, and the relative stupidity of the combatants, and random chance.
