Well I noticed that side doors of LAAT/i Gunship don't extend far enough to cover the hole side (before the door) of craft

is there any official explanation for this?

Mind providing evidence?

Perhaps so that the interior of the craft isn't completely enclosed in case of emergencies, so there's still an exit provided.

I'm not at home, so I can't check, but like Hueys, it seems they keep those "doors" open as a matter of course anyway. Do they not extend all the way to the front? If not, it may be to allow the ball composite-beam turrets to swing out?

they don't extend all the way. What I think is that part of door can retracted inside so extent the ball turrets still keep maximium protection in advent of shield failure.
