You have just been put in charge of the Imperial Navy

You, an imperial citizen, have just been put in charge of the Imperial navy. You are given directions to turn it into an even better military force than it already is. You are given a large budget and freedom to do anything to improve the Navy.

First: what are the bad things about the imperial navy?

Second: What do you do to remedy these?

1) Prevalence of supergeneralist ship designs in anything destroyer and above.
1a) Venator-style carriers (or modern equivalent), Acclamator-style troopships (or modern equivalent) and Tector-style warships deployed. ISDs relegated to supporting roles and police actions.

2) Lack of coordination with escort elements (few to no escort elements seen accompanying ISDs)
2a) Permanently assign a small escort flotilla to each ISD, as opposed to assigning them to a larger fleet in general. This ensures that an ISD will always have lighter screening elements on-hand, even during detatched duty.

3) High officer attrition rate.
3a) Bar Dark Lords of the Sith from my warships. They kill entirely too many of my officers.

4) It's possible for freighters to escape pursuit elements.
4a) Assign more Interdictors to detatched elements, constructing more as necessary. Screen appropriately, as they will be primary targets.

5) Rebel strength is heavily concentrated in fighters.
5a) Increase deployment and production of Lancer frigates, and commission a SSM*-heavy escort design.

6) Rebel fighters are hyper-capable, ours aren't (depending on point in timeline, this may not be an issue.)
6a) Get off our fat, Imperial asses and start purchasing a few of the dozens of hyper-capable fighter classes, instead of waiting for our own pet shipyards to get around to it. Whatever the GE uses for BuShips is collectively as intelligent as a turnip in that respect.

Assign each squad with at least one of the latest model of HK series assassin droid to aid in defeating their enemies, or at least dig up HK-47 to be my second in command.

Or issue the Dark Lords with giant paper fans or large plastic hammers, and forbid them from using more than these for punishment.

Maybe mount a whole swarm of (semi-)automated light lasers (single digit kiloton range at the very most) on capital ships for point- and anti-fighter defense. While they may or not be a serious threat to enemy fighters, getting their cockpits flashed by hit should make it a hell of a lot harder for the pilots to concentrate on harassing you.

1. Current Insurrection in the Outer Rim.
1a. Redeployment of 20% of the Core Worlds and Corporate Sector Fleets for duty in the Outer Rim, crush Rebel Scum with millions of HTL hammer blows....fuck that 'one swift stroke' bullshit.

Shoot every named officer seen in the canon except Veers. Replace them all with clones of Veers. This will result in far greater efficiency.a non-serious post

And you didn't read the OP well enough. That might have been a recommendation for the Army, not the Navy.

Not really. I was speaking of shooting Tarkin, Ozzel, Piett, Needa, and co, and replacing them with clones of General Veers, appropriately re-trained. :P

Go through the officer corps like a maniac replacing all the "I'm only in it for myself" fools who end up warlords and fighting each other in the days after Endor with people dedicated to the Empire and the Navy instead of being dedicated to themselves.

Recall Daala's 4 ISDs, but not Daala.

Replace SPHA s with treaded vehicles instead of walkers.

Think that about overs it.

Why?

As a side note, Piett wasnt a bad officer as far as I could tell. He was just the vehicle for Vader's orders, orders which often ended up puting him in a bad position.

Y'know, despite KJA's charicatures and shit, I really bet the majority of warlords were local patriots and when push came to shove, they really did respect the personal dignity and leadership of the Emperor, and when he died, looked at the increasingly degenerate and self-destructive leadership and felt that loyalty to the Empire and civilization meant safeguarding his sector as he knew best, not what each caudillo in Coruscant this week thought would maximize his power and neutralize rivals.

This is backed up by the rapidity with which the factions came together under Thrawn's command.

Meh, a lot of the warlords gave lip-service support, but Krennel for example sent little but money and a few supplies. Most sat on the sidelines, and Thrawn lacked the brawn to force the issue. Dark Empire states, "and other Imperial factions [from Thrawn's] waiting the wings" launched their offensive on Coruscant.

a) Scrap Death Star construction. Use the resources to build Star Destroyers.
b) put Thrawn in charge of strategic operations
c) get rid off incompetents like Ozzel etc
d) commission more fighters along the lines of the Tie Defender and Tie Advanced. If this is not economically feasible, upgrade the Ties with shields.
e) Do what White Haven wrote

Because walkers suck and treads are far superior. I'm sure another HAB minion can school you on the fine points.

Just curious, have we established that Treads are also superior to Repulsor Lifts?

Legs have some advantages (which is why they ae still used), but overall repulsors are better then legs.

And those benefits Legs have are shared with treads and wheels, so really, there is no need for walkers.

7) Rebel forces have access to ISD-equivalent warships, enabling them to match Imperial forces in even engagements.
7a) Fill in the gap between Imperator and Executor classes with one or more cruiser-grade designs to regain individual superiority.

8 ) Head of government seems to think that that qualifies him to have an opinion on naval matters.
8a) Have Guido, Lenny, and Tyrone 'explain' to the good Emperor that being politically savvy and pure evil does not make him anything greater than a flaming retard in other areas. With nail bats.

9) Superweapons are invariably either destroyed or turned against the Empire.
9a) Don't fucking build superweapons. You'd be amazed what an equal investment into heavy cruiser designs would bring.

Got those.

They come back fried with Force Lightning. Besides, civilian control is supposedly a good thing.

They already have heavy cruiser designs. Time to accelerate building them. Actually, just move those we have out into the open. Besides, since the EU thinks a SSD (above 1.6km) is a "superweapon", the Powers that Be (you know, the ones that really ensured the superweapons are invariably destroyed or captured) would cheat and scam with them just to win (more than one Executor died to such stupidity).

As for forgetting superweapons, a rational analysis would show they have their place. They just have ridiculously bad luck. If I'm in the Imperial Navy, I'd be superstitious.
