Jedi Starfighter shielding

I suppose everyone noticed this in AOTC. During the asteroid chase scene, Obi-wan's starfighter is hit at least a dozen times by the heayv laser cannons onboard Slave One. How can a fighter smaller than an A-wing sustain such heavy damage?
Does it use a super-miniturized shield generator or does it have some special form of ray shielding?
And why can't the A-wing, which is far newer than the Jedi Starfighter, attain the same results?

Simple, Jango's Lasers are weaker than Standerd TIE which are designed to punch through SF Hulls, they could simple be a mangintuded(10X) more powerful than standerd TIE Lasers
Also did the Jedi Star-Fighter even have any weapons aside from a Laser set? Could be most of the space is devoted to shielding
Witness the X-Wing it has a bare Meter sized area to fit everything from Communcation to shield Generation while the Jedi-Starfighter has 3-4 cubic meters of space for those things

first this is pure Star Wars
Perhaps the Jedi Star Fighter is optimised for defense and really not intended for combat. It is not faster than the Slave-1 as it could gain on it. We know the A-wing is faster then Slave-1, also the Jedi Starighter has no visible weapons. The A-Wing has a missile tube the Jedi Starfighter does not. The A-Wing has a Jamming Rig the Jedi Starfighter does not. The A-Wing can take quite a beating and so can the Jedi Starfighter.
Played DVD and te Jedi ship does take quite a few hits and then Jango say now to finish him off.

Well... If I recall correctly, there weren't many direct hits. Most of it were just glancing blows...

When we see the ship landing on Genosia we see that it took a lot of hits, so it either has tough armor, or they were just glacing hits thanks to Obi-Wan's force ablities, but the shields are not execpional.

First: Isolder's right. Thread moved to Pure SW.
Second: with regards to the original question, an A-Wing does sacrifice some shielding compared with the Jedi Starfighter, but it also enjoys some enormous advantages. It has a hyperdrive, an advanced sensor-stealth mechanism, the ability to fire warheads, and a marginal advantage in acceleration and maneuverability.
Finally, Slave 1's mid-ships cannons are not as high-powered as others in the SW universe. They are designed to have a high-rate of fire, at the expense of firepower. This is a significant advantage for engaging small and maneuverable targets, but it also necessitates multiple shots to destroy a target.

Listening to board members is part of my job. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Many of them either missed, or were glancing hits. Jango just fired the cannons, and didn't bother aiming.

Something to point out: in the DVD version of AOTC, there are a bunch of deleted scenes. One of them shows the Jedi Starfighter flying up into orbit around Coruscant and docking with the hyperdrive ring. There are *several* docking rings in sight there, in what looks like a droid-maintained marshalling area. Would this be typical of prototypes?

The FX guys imply that Hyperdrives require more space than the Jedi Starfighter has available, and that's why it uses the Hyperdrive ring. Apparently they had a big dicussion about it.

OK, you are making about zero sense here, please try and bring some coherency into your words.
First you are saying Jangos weapons are weaker, something thats doubtfull, then you say they are more powerfull than standard TIE lasers.
WTF?
Now, I say this is not unexpected performance for a starfighter, simple as that.

Woopsy! Guess I need more sleep, I ment to say that TIE Lasers are more powerful but slower shooting weapons while Jango's is small but much quicker as everyone else basicly said

Anyone seen the MF chase scene in ANH? the TIE's fire pretty frickin' fast there.
Personally I doubt the slave-1's guns are weaker, I think maybe he fired them at 1KT or so, about 50% of his guns capabilities.
I'd average out the ordinary Starfighter gun at 1KT max too.
Jango's weapons where nearly 2KT.

...then the Jedi Starfighter must have a real tough hull.
In ANH, at the trench run, Biggs' X-wing blowed up from nearly the same amount of hits.
But his shields were equalized both forward and back, so...Any idea?

That they are fucking awsome for a one man fighter's weaponry.

Well if x-wings have 4KT shields and they have forward and backward shields, thats 2KT for forward and backwards, two hits from 1KT weapons could take them out, whilst if they have all power in the backwards shields then they have a 4KT backwards shield and it'd take 4 simoultaneous shots or a really really many smaller shots that'll slowly wear on the shields over some time, like in AOTC then, possibly.

There are tensor fields that can strengthen hull plating (as can particle shielding by secondary effect.) But even more than that there are hull-effect forms of shielding (Arakyd Viper Probot Molecular shields, and Slave-1's "contact" ray shielding.) Hell, shields can even interact/merge with the upper layers of the hull (and in some cases it might be neccessary to help distribute or spread deflector shielding across the hull - IE as with the X-wing according to the SW databank.)
