How do Ithorians eat?

Post by Molyneux »

I'm watching the Star Wars animated shorts right now, and they're showing Shaak Ti and a Talz and Ithorian Jedi fighting Grievous, and I have to wonder...

How do Ithorians eat? It's to be assumed that Talz can use their proboscis to consume potables and edibles, but seeing as how Ithorians use the slits on the sides of their 'heads' for respiratory purposes (and apparently have several *huge* lungs), how would they eat?

I think it's a given that they're herbivorous, given their lifestyle, but...how do they get energy to survive?

Has this ever been addressed in canon or EU?

I once heard mention of a small, beak-like mouth at the base of their necks before. This however may just be a figment of a confused imagination. Perhapps they eat like Ortolans, who use nutrient-absorbing finger tips.

The mouth is under the arch I think, at least that's what I understood.

They're neither Cartman, nor that alien from the "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" sitcom, so...I doubt it.

South Park I could understand, but Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? WTF? How did they get away with that?

They had the alien take a plate of chicken, put it on his seat, and sit on it (with his pants on), making appreciative comments as the family looked on in horror.

It's one of the few things I remember from that show, along with the laser shaver...the alien was vaguely orange and his name started with an H, if I recall correctly.

I recall a concept drawing of an Ithorian in the Mos Eisley cantina, relaxing with a drink. They have mouths, if small.
Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Extralife style.

Hrm, if Ithorians have a separate orifice used for consuming food, that is located on their axis of symmetry, then they really shouldn't refer to the breathing passages along the sides of their necks as "mouths" even though they're used for vocalization.

Those are fkin nostrils!
