In the last month, almost 20% of my bandwidth has been due to the Imperial March MP3 file on the main site. Just FYI; I found this an interesting factoid.

I guess it´s the season of Star Wars.

It's probably a hot item due to the new Movie.

I did some more investigating and logfile analysis, and determined that roughly half of that bandwidth is taken up by fucking hotlinker bandwidth-stealers. One bitch was even embedding it into her webpage so that it would play automatically from my server every time someone visited her website.

Needless to say, I now have a RewriteRule in place that redirects them to a page which says "No hotlinking allowed". I was tempted to link it to some kind of porno site but I didn't know if that would get me in trouble with my webhost's TOS.

For the person who had it embedded, you could have, say, a loop of nails on a chalkboard to replace her linking to the Imperial March.

I went to download Imperial March from sdnet only after seeing this thread.. weird innit?

Didn't you do something like that to DarkStar when he was hotlinking those videos off of the site? Did you take shit for that from your webhost or something?

I think I only downloaded that song from this site once, if at all, and only to give it a listen. I tend not to get MP3s of songs that I already have on CD, which would include "The Imperial March."

My double Reward Zone points just got posted to my account, so I'm opening my Star Wars OT OST set right now. Have to listen to the Imperial March first.

Actually, the message board is slowing down because the board's indexes have grown too big to fit in memory, so the server is hitting the HD a lot more.
