Not fully completed- still have a few more pages of info to add! You'll find out the mystery of Sifo-Dyas, who really ordered the clone army, how Chancellor Valorum was disgraced, whythe Trade Feds were allowed battle droids, why district shields were used on Coruscant instead of the planetary one, etc.
Lucas sat down with Luceno personallly and gave him the entire backstory for the prequels.

Poe, regarding the quote on cloned organs, if youve read the MedStar books, the reason the clones had plenty of organs availiable is due in part because they are all genetically identical and they don't have to bother searching for a match. Just something to consider and I don't think it really alters the point you are making in presenting it.

I see that stupid brainbug about an Army of only 1.2 million clones is in there. Needless to say, that's patently absurd. When are they going to fix that stupidity?

Err, there are Coruscanti planetary shields; according to ROTS ICS, they kept many of the ships pinned close to the atmosphere, accounting for the close combat of ROTS (in addition to blocking escape routes through the ingress/egress seams in the shield for the Republic ships).

The later quote in LoE does mention that Palpatine could increase the size of the armed forces if the attack disrupts the Senate, but I second that opinion.Vympel wrote:I see that stupid brainbug about an Army of only 1.2 million clones is in there. The number does seem small, but somehow, I dont really have a problem with it. It is obvious that the Republic's forces are spread pretty thin. I guess this just illustrates how much so (it is brought up in this context when it is first mentioned in "Shatterpoint.") It also illustrates how much better clones (and their heavy equiptment) are than the CIS droid armies, considering that the Republic wins most ground engaments its involved in despite being almost always outnumbered.Darth Fanboy wrote:The later quote in LoE does mention that Palpatine could increase the size of the armed forces if the attack disrupts the Senate, but I second that opinion.Vympel wrote:I see that stupid brainbug about an Army of only 1.2 million clones is in there. One could also make the argument that the 1.2 million does not include crew for the capital ships?

In the imaginations of most Star Wars creators, including Lucas himself, the space and ground battles we see are large conflicts. Endor was a huge battle that involved the entire Rebel forces, Geonosis was an equally huge ground battle, and the Kashyyyk battle is an example of an average Clone Wars engagement. The battles for planets are not fought globally but locally in a tiny region of each planet, involving only the forces we actually see in the movie. From this perspective, the 1.2 million figure is not entirely unreasonable, if we assume that only a few planets are fought over at the same time. This is the minimalist view that is so despised here, but it's very hard to disprove with all of the movie and EU material that seems to support it.
Don't be stupid. 1.2 million clones wouldn't be enough to take ONE planet.Pure Sabacc wrote:

Dooku mentions tens of thousands of systems joining the Seperatist side in the meeting in AOTC and we know they are the smaller faction. The numbers required to fight a war on that scale are staggeringly large. 1.2 million only cuts it if you are talking about 1.2 million legions, not 1.2 million troops.

Depending on how one views the canonicity of AOTC script and cut scenes, Yoda was apparently using the Dark Side to probe the future during AOTC. It was also not an impulsive notion, cause Mace Windu told Obiwan that probing the Dark Side was very dangerous, thus, Yoda had closed himself off in seclusion in order to do so.

I think Eframe sums it up. Ground engamaents in the SW universe dont involve full planet conflicts, their localized engaments that center around taking major cities and bases (or defending them) or destroying shield Generators. weapons emplacements, power generators, etc. Once these places are taken or destroyed, the entire planet is subject to the whims of the largest fleet in orbit. As for actions like peacekeeping, many of the worlds during the clone wars changed hands very often, so major, planet-scale peacekeeping was impractical and unessisry. Just control the major cities and keep the rest in line with the fear of a BDZ until done what you've come to do (grab resources, capture leaders, construct space stations, etc.) Certainly, later on, when the Empire began to focus on peacekeeping and long term occupation, a vastly larger ground force was necissary. However, such a large standing concentraion of troops was only needed on a few major loyalist worlds (to ensure their remained membership and discourage invaders) and on planets that were so valuable that planetary bombardment would be useless (IE Dronogar for the Medstar books.) Looking at these facts, the 1.2 million is reasonable.Vympel wrote:Don't be stupid. 1.2 million clones wouldn't be enough to take ONE planet.Pure Sabacc wrote:

No, its not, because than any half decent planetary leader would simply cluster a million-odd troops around centralized bases and shield generators and there's not a goddamn thing they could do about it.
You have no clue how big a galaxy is; hell, the number of Acclamators visible at the end of AOTC would have to be a HUGE percentage of the military; the number of Venators in ROTS even more so. Wake up.

I seem to recall that the 1.2 million will be edited out of future reprints, no?

The planetary shields were probably raised later to better thwart the CIS' escape from Coruscant. Try and keep them trapped under the shield.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Err, there are Coruscanti planetary shields; according to ROTS ICS, they kept many of the ships pinned close to the atmosphere, accounting for the close combat of ROTS (in addition to blocking escape routes through the ingress/egress seams in the shield for the Republic ships).
This shielding by district also jives with the "layered shield" idea, and these may be the first line of defence before the higher atmosphere and orbital shield grids are activated.

It's technically the lead-in novel to ROTS (much as Cloak of Deception, The Approaching Storm, and Shadows of the Empire were lead-ins to TPM, AOTC, and ROTJ). However, it's also the first in an unofficial trilogy that is continued in Matt Stover's novelization of ROTS and concluded next year with James Lucenco's Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.Glimmervoid wrote:Is "LABYRINTH OF EVIL" a stand alone book or part of a series?
If it is part of a series what is the first book.
Luceno has said that its actually a trilogy starting with his book, then RotS, and then a novel immediately post RotS novel. (Shit, posted too late.)Glimmervoid wrote:Is "LABYRINTH OF EVIL" a stand alone book or part of a series?

As to my earlier post, my argument about the Grand Army not needing as many CT's many of you seem to think (pertaining to ground engament tactics) however, the number does seem to low, and I wouldnt object to a change in future reprints.

I'll have the rest of the book quotes online late Sunday. And I'll try to fix some of the typos!
Oh, and BTW, if some obsessed, stalking, rabid Trekkie "parallel universe" lying piece of dogshit questions Luceno's speaking to Lucas about plot points, laugh at his lack of accurate information, and simply refer the stupid cocksucker here:

TUCWS: When and with whom did the idea for Labyrinth of Evil originate?
TUCWS: Was George Lucas involved at any stage of Labyrinth? Was there anything that you wanted to include but was shot down?JL: When I was commissioned to write a prequel that would focus on Anakin and Obi-Wan, I said that I would like it to be more directly tied to the film than previous prequels had been. A reference to Cato Neimoidia in an early version of the script seemed a good jumping off point, but I still wasn’t sure where to go from there. At a meeting at LucasFilm in January, 2004, I drew up a list of questions for George Lucas, and Lucas’s responses provided me with much more to work with. I went to Mexico to think things through, and while there I happened to see a fellow traveler reading Clancy’s The Hunt for Red October, and thought: “The Search for Sidious.” From then on the central plot for the book began to take shape.
JL: George was involved to the extent that he provided answers to the many questions I had about Master Sifo-Dyas, General Grievous, Dooku’s allegiance to Sidious, the Prophecy of the Chosen One, the Battle of Coruscant, and more. The Sifo-Dyas background came straight from Lucas, as did Sidious’s words to Dooku before the duel aboard Grievous’s starship. I had already been asked to create a background for Grievous, but I asked George for his thoughts, and was told to think of Grievous as a joint product of the Banking Clan and the Geonosians. Regarding the Battle of Coruscant, in my early outline I had Palpatine being moved about as President Bush was in Air Force One on Nine-Eleven. George said, however, that I should rework this along the lines of what the Secret Service did with Cheney, which was to get him to a hardened bunker. There were many other instances when I asked for his input, simply because I didn’t want to second guess him, or base my plotpoints solely on my read of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I wish I’d been allowed to do more with Padmé, and to bring Dooku and Anakin within striking range of one another, but to do so would have trampled on lines in the final script. I also had to be very cagey about maintaining the Palpatine/Sidious illusion.
