Usually any contradiction in the Star Wars extended canon, no matter how seemingly extreme, can be reconciled. But what happens when there are two different versions of the same event, namely Grievous's attack on Coruscant and capture of Palpatine? It is portrayed differently in the book Labyrinth of Evil and the Cartoon Network's most recent Clone Wars episodes. There is no question that both are supposed to be canon - LoE even references earlier chapters of Clone Wars. But which actual train of events is canon? I lean towards LoE, since it is actually referenced in the movie with Obi-Wan's comment about Cato Neimoidia. Is there an official explanation for this, or is there some even more far-fetched continuity patch like Grievous capturing Palpatine twice or something?

Sue Rostoni said she considers LOE the true depiction of events. Also, Lucas himself sat down with Luceno and fielded questions about LOE.

The Clone Wars toon should be considered tall tales, really. Especially given Mace Windu's performance on Dantooine.

So LoE is more canon, and the more recent Clone Wars episodes' events are most likely not canon, at least as presented. Unfortunately this contradicts Mace's Force-crushing of Grievous's chest, which many have suggested as the cause of his cough and awkward walk. Maybe he caught a cyborg flu?

That one part of the Clone Wars is wrong and other parts may be exaggerated, doesn't mean we chuck the whole thing out. Grievous's wounding probably became common knowledge fairly quickly. The Republic were surely attempt to capitalize on the propaganda value of defeating and wounding so well known and widely feared an individual as Grievous. If the cartoon is the semi-accurate tall tales, then we can rationalize its errors in one part while accepting the events in other parts. If my understanding is correct, Lucas included Grievous's injury because he liked it. So that has Lucas's approval and is also in.

While I haven't read Labyrinth of Evil, did Grievous get damaged in it? Because him constantly coughing seemed a clear reference to him getting force-crushed in Chapter 25 of the Clone Wars.
