The great movie review echo chamber?

Post by Vympel »

A cursory examination of rottentomatoes reviews, especially the current 17% minority of negative ones, has the same criticism, literally over and over and over again: the dialog is "wooden". Now, leaving aside the substance of the criticism, i.e. that the dialog is somehow wanting, can these people not grasp a euphemism for this concept other than "wooden"? It makes me wonder if these people are just reading each other's reviews for new ways to spin their disappointment, rather than putitng any original thought into what they're writing.

I didn't think the dialogue was that bad. I don't think any of it was wooden or cringeworthy, and in fact I'm rather sick of that term as well.

Some of the lines in the opening space battle were a bit off, but for the most part I thought it was good.

However, I think the critics use "wooden" simply because it communicates what they want to communicate effectively, though I suppose "stiff" would work as well.

Still, though, I thought the acting was much improved over AotC.

Listen, dialogue has never been the strong point of the PT, but other than a few really terrible lines during the love scenes I did not think it was that bad. Honestly, I get the feeling these people didn't really bother to really review the movie critically and just recycled the same criticisms made of the first two prequels.

Ironically there were probably the least number of cringe moments from adults in TPM; sure Anakin was an eye-roller, but he was nine years old. Liam Neeson really carried that shit. Too bad the plot was shitty and it was stuffed with gimmicks.
