Alright, a friend of mine has become interested in the SW saga thanks to the latest movies, and actually wants to read the post OT books, something which I never did en masse. So, here's the thing I need help with: If I give him a list of books that he should read which ones should be on it?
Treaty at Bakura without a doubt, and the Thrawn books, but what other books should be on the list, and which books should I have him avoid like the plague?
I need help...

Avoid anything New Jedi Order, it has some good books but many of them are awful and there is no point in reading just a few of them.
Avoid anything by a schmuck with the intials "KJA" (Kevin J Anderson) , don't let the neat title like Darksaber fool you, its awful.
I dislike Michael Stackpole's writing but the Rogue Squadron books aren't bad once you get past the Corran Horn stuff, and the Wraith Squadron books by Aaron Allston I thought were great. And if you read the Wraith books then you have to tack on "The Courtship of Princess Leia" with those for afterwards. Timothy Zahn has a "Hand of Thrawn" duology (Spectre of the Past + Visions of the Future) that is not bad as well as his book trilogy.

I enjoyed all of the NJO books save Balance Point.
Anything by Zahn, X-Wing books.
If he enjoys all those, then he might like KJA, although thats kinda streching it. Avoid the Crystal Star and the Black Fleet books at all costs.
