Simple question. Does he have one, and if so, what is it?
Or is he one of those one-name people, kinda like Cher, except more attractive and less evil?

Thanks to Publius, Palpatine will always be Augie to me.

Or not...

Palpatine's given name (if any) is unknown. In the novelization, he is referred to as "Palpatine of Naboo," which loosely implies that Palpatine is his only name. In Crimson Empire II: Council of Blood, career civil servant Xandel Carivus declared himself Galactic Emperor and used the style "Emperor Carivus," which implies by parallel that Palpatine is a surname. Alternatively, some have suggested that Palpatine may be a "name of state," à la "Amidala" for Padmé Naberrie, with his actual given name and surname unknown.
There are a number of spurious candidates for his given name, among them Cos (from a predecessor character in earlier drafts, Cos Dashit), Dantius, and the name used on this author's site, Augustus (the diminutive "Augie" actually refers to Augie's Great Municipal Band, which performed in the parade at the end of The Phantom Menace). All of these names are unofficial and apocryphal, and should not be taken as authoritative.

I like Augustus, the name suits him perfectly.

Augustus would be a good one, especially with the whole Palatine -> Palpatine thing, though I have heard (incorrectly) that his first name is Cos.

It's his first and last name. Palpatine Palpatine. His father had a sick sense of humor, but didn't realize that the joke only worked if you named him Senator Senator.

I think that's thanks to SuperShadow.

I notice it on his page, I can only assume his dirty memes have propagated over the net and become a "fanon" name for many.

I've had this doubt for a while now: do we know for sure that Palpatine is from Naboo? I mean, he could be from somewhere else and faked his identity to be able to become a senator.

Frank (I must be Frank, your Majesty).
Jocking aside i would prefer Armand. You know, like Armand Ju Plessis.
Would also be a nice tie-in with Christopher Lee playing his servant.

It would have to have been a pretty good forgery - Senators are important people, so he would need a pretty solid background due to reporters, political enemies, and other annoyances. Maybe he came as a refugee (after some initial Sith training), who became the "big man on Naboo"
. Would pretty much allow him to dodge or lie about his background w/o any annoying questions about "Senator, why did you disappear for 8 years without a trace?". Crushing reporters tracheas, while fun, might be a bit noticeable.

Can anyone explain to me just why he can't be from Naboo? It's not as if they're all squeaky clean political idealists like Amidala given they were basically living in apartheid with the Gungans.

I'm not saying he's not from Naboo, I'm just asking if we have any proof that he is. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. I just wanted to know for sure.

I didn't mean to single you out personally (hence my lack of quoting you), it's just something that's popped up more than once.

I don't know, he simply strikes me like the king of guy that was raised by his master in a planet outside the republic where the jedi had no presence . A primitive and desolated planet with a not very advanced civilization. It just feels like he's from a planet like Genosis or something like that. But hey, if he's from Naboo then he's from Naboo and my little fantasy is wrong.

I feel compelled to point out that there is a very well-known politician in this country who moved to a state she had no historical connection to and shortly thereafter got elected to the U.S. Senate without faking her identity. (Unless you include her sudden love of the Yankees.) We have no information on what the residency requirements are for Galactic Senators, as far as I know.
