I was just checking out the site for the new SW Battlefront II two game and something immediately grab my eye in both the screen shots and trailer of the Endor space battle there is a huge Star Destroyer type vessel. Its not an ISD I or II because is has huge side mounted hangar bays!

Has anyone else seen this?

Have you got a link?

Its just the fucked up Battlefront-ized ISD.

I really love how SW bends to fit the mold of these games rather than suiting games for the franchise. Someone else complained about this earlier.

Isn't Battlefront that crappy Star Wars RTS?

Check out the 3rd video, it show the entire vessel. The reactor sphere is further forward and it appears to be much longer than an ISD.

Edit:

links fixed.

While true, remember some good does come from the games. The Vengenace Star Battlecrusier for instance, missile boats, tie defenders, etc.

I don't see it as a problem as I doubt GL will ever stop tinkering with his baby, no matter what he says.

No, you might be thinking of Rebellion. Battlefront was actually a very good game, and the best seller lucasart ever had.

Though to be honest I liked Rebellion.

Battefront is the semi-BF1942 clone.

Force Commander and Galactic Battlegrounds (the Age of Empires clone) are the RTSs.

What IP said. Looks like some crappy ISD clone, regardless of size. I doubt it's an acceptable piece of information, BoE-wise.

Please learn to use the BBCode correctly.

Actually, I was thinking of Galactic Battlegrounds, but both it and Rebellion sucked equally.

To be fair, SWGB is a half decent AoE clone. But then, I enjoyed Supremacy/Rebellion.

The one I'm looking at is deliberately different from an ISD. It has a launch bay in the side. This kind of thing must be intentional, you don't 'accidentally' add a docking back.

Its a game mechanic; they thought it'd be too hard to fly up into an ISD bay and into one of the hangars, so they just moved the hangar.

IIRC that's because they have a level that requires horizontal entry into the ship.

It's so fucking lame when they get basically the biggest scifi brand in the universe (after Doctor Who, natch ;)) and then get 'derivative mindless hack' developers to butcher the source to make a vaguely Star Wars-ish cookie cutter FPS or RTS or fucking kart game. I can think of half a dozen people ON THIS BOARD who could do a better job of game design in a few fucking hours. Ugh.

Really? If that's true it's fucking ridiculous!

I fail to see how it could be that difficult to set up the animation so that a player could fly in through the ventral hanger. Its not as if they just had to include that scene.

That said that thing looks only vaguely like and ISD the dorsal terraces are different, reactor bulb is more forward, and it looks to be longer as well. It has two addition armor sections on the dorsal side by the nose. The turrets are also very widely spaced apart. Also there are 2 hangar bays mounted in the trench, which appears to have no notches or visible gun mounts.

It can't be an ISD: it’s the only on in the screens with those features. All the others look like stock ISD II's.

Is this not the sort of semantic that someone like Dr. Saxton would believe warrants its own class?

No, that's Empire at War. Battlefront is an FPS.

As mentioned before, there are many RTS', so nothing is "the Starwars RTS."

Not really because we know its done for game reasons, and its otherwise inseperable from the ISD standard. Moreover, its at Endor, and we know these don't exist at Endor.

Sorry, I got confused between Battlefront, Battlegrounds and Battlefront II!

I agree. It's pathetic when the game devs just use the license to sell a game with content that looks something like the licensed material, when the actual game content is just generic crap.
Doesn't apply for every game, but when too many liberties are taken and/or especially when the game sucks, then it pisses me off.

Back on topic, couldn't they just have modelled the ISD correctly and written a routine of some sort that raises and lowers fighters into the hangar bay level, the way tractor beams are supposed to?
Seems lazy to totally change a ship's appearance just for that.
