ROTS 'What if'
What if, by an act of Q, the Jedi suddenly overnight change their mind on relationships? Say just after the gigantic spacebattle. If Yoda and Co confront Anakin about his relationship...but instead of the expulsion he expects, they give him their blessing.
Obi and Anakin also get roaring drunk at the SW equivilant of a baby shower in celebration, where it becomes public to everyone that Obi-One knew about everything all along (except the comming twins of course) but kept Anikins secret, something that really makes Anakin feal deeply indebted to Obi-One and reinforces their friendship deeply.
So what happens now? Palpy is still there of course with his plan...but what will happen now? With Doku dead and the seperatists nearing defeat as the Republics material advantages start to steamroll them, will he take his leave of the Jedi order for a time to raise the kids on Naboo? Will he stay and help fight until the war is over? Will Palpitine still be able to turn him based on his fears of loosing Padme (knowing that now he can publicly go to Yoda and tell him what he REALLY saw)? Will Palpy attempt still to put Anakin on the Council and drive a wedge between them? OR will it fail now?

If the Jedi can't provide him with a way of saving Padme I don't see much of a change. The driving influence on Anakin was not hiding the relationship but saving Padme. The hidden relationship just added a level of intrigue and tension to the situation.
Anakin still loved Padme more than Obi Wan or Palpatine or anyone else for that matter.

Of course, in the novelization, it is hinted at that if Anakin had become a master, he would have had access to the guarded, secret portion of the Archives, which may have provided him with the skills he sought, especially if Obi-Wan, Yoda, and the Council helped him search. A big what if, but still something.Stravo wrote:If the Jedi can't provide him with a way of saving Padme I don't see much of a change. Save that in Anakin's experience the future becomes real in his dreams as with his mother. Frankly unless the Jedi said "We can save her." Anakin is going to turn. He would do anything to save her and so he did. Unfortunately for him and her.Kuja wrote:If the Jedi opened up to Anakin, in return he might open up during his talk with Yoda than he did in the movie. Jedi philosophy was not the answer he was looking for because Anakin was incapable of letting things go and that was the core of anything Yoda had to offer. Remember Yoda's sage advice to Luke on letting his friends die.

Yoda would give the same shitty "you must learn to let go" advice that he did before, because he doesn't know any other way of thinking. Obi-Wan might be more open-minded though, and might try to help Anakin find some way of preventing Padme's death. That could tip the scales of Anakin's behaviour, since it teetered on a razor's edge at one point.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.

There's still the element of the Jedi Council's lack of trust in Anakin to consider. They still didn't let him in on their tenative plot to take control of the Senate to ensure a peaceful transition. They still made him feel dishonest by asking him to spy on his friend of over 13 years. It wasn't just Padme, or though that was the major factor ("I can't live without her.")
As to Yoda's advice: it sounds shitty, but the thing is he was right, though more by pure chance than by any inherent wisdom. If Anakin hadn't been so determined for it not to happen, it wouldn't have. But then, what's Anakin supposed to think? He did nothing for quite a long time when he dreamt of his mother in pain and suffering, and she died when he finally coudn't take it anymore and went to Tatooine.

If Anakin had access to the Council's resources (or even just Obi-Wan's), he might have found a way to save Padme. He didn't dare ask any of them or let them know about his marriage, turning to Sidious instead.
Of course, Padme's death as he prophecized could not have been avoided through any magical life-saving Force techniques: it was caused by his quest and fall.
Referring to the OP, were the Separatists really getting steamrolled? I kind of assumed they fell apart because General Grievous and all the Separatist leaders were killed. Were they being strategically pwned?
Anyway, even if Anakin didn't fall, Order 66 would have taken care of most of the Jedi. Of course, unless he found a way to deal with them, Anakin, Yoda and Obi-Wan would likely shorten his reign somewhat drastically.

Well, on the one hand, the opening crawl says the Republic is crumbling, but that could refer to the general state of affairs in the galaxy rather than who's winning. We hear that the Outer Rim sieges are going very well from Obi-Wan.Cykeisme wrote: Referring to the OP, were the Separatists really getting steamrolled? I'd say the Separatists weren't getting steamrolled, but were getting defeated. But the plan was always to simply deactivate the entire Droid Army and send all the ships back from whence they came at a predetermined point.

One of possibly the most interesting point brought up in the novel. Anakin wanted and relished to be Master because he thought they knew the secrets to save Padme's life. Thus when Mace did his line, in the novel it was so much more crushing to Anakin because not only did he feel the disrespect but the whole feeling that he would not access the Master's archive and find the possiblity of saving Padme.Stravo wrote:Save that in Anakin's experience the future becomes real in his dreams as with his mother. The problem is building up the critical emotional mass and "DS Points" in Anakin to turn him and get him to go on a rampage,
it's doubtful that Anakin would have killed Windu if he wasnt a mental mess (See ROTS novelization).
