Whats up with the jedi starfighters?

Okay, the jedi starfighters look cool, and have cool variants, but WHY? The first one
Then Episode III's tie one
And of course, don't forget Annis modified one, which has huge air intakes (it appears) for SPACE!

Does any one else see the stupidity, or have a way to prove My Stupidity?

I believe Anakin's air intakes are for atmospheric flight.
As for all the variations, Oh NO, there are two main line models, one at the bginning of a war, and another in the end. Wow, thats ridiculous. Gee, you never have to change equiptment and strategy when switching from peacekeeping to war.

I like sarcasm, dont I?

Then why does that jedi fly an old one during the Order 66 sequence?

He may have been more comfortable with it. Perhaps it matched better with his flying abilities/style.
We still used the P47 after we introduced the P51... they just served different roles.

Why did the Empire use Tie Fighters even though the Tie Interceptor was being manufactured? Because of the roles they have in combat.

I've only saw the movie once and my mind have a habit of making shit up, but wasn't that Anakin's modified?

No that was a regular Delta-7, but with a paint scheme similar to Anakin's modded fighter.

No probably just a similar paint job.

Nope it wasent. It was modified from the stock model though because it had wings.

Slightly off topic... Plo Koon's fighter on Cato Neimoidia looked like its wing tips were trailing vapor. Doesn't look like it's possible from the shape of the Delta-7's wings. (Or lateral extremeties, to be precise. Those ain't wings.) Perhaps the vapor is forming off the shape of the particle shields?

Isn't Anakin's modified fighter hyperspace capable? I think that's what the large engines on the front are, but I've never actually seen any specs on it. That was always my assumption since he chased Ventress in it.

Actually, according to every source I've seen, the Empire intended to completely replace the TIE/ln with the TIE Interceptor. However, replacements don't happen overnight. New ships take time and resources to build, and troops need to be trained to properly use them. That's another reason why older weapons are still used even though there's something better.

And the fact that the old equiptment is still thare and still works mean it would be a waste not to use it. eventually the old stuff will be phased out but nothing like that ever happens overnight

It is, yes, although that's not what the engines are for. They're for increased atmospheric preformance, and possibly because they look cool-- Anakin's known for liking to be flashy and unique.

Hrm, yeah, that's what those large structures on the underside of Anakin's Delta-7 must be.. a hyperdrive unit.
I wonder why the extra mass didn't seem to affect his maneuerability significantly (judging by his maneuvers in the space battle of Muunilist).
Regarding the TIE Interceptor replacing the TIE/In, I can think of other reasons why the older model may be kept.. it probably has lower maintenance requirements due to its simplicity, as well as possibly having a longer operational range since it masses less.

Of course, and it´s also more realistic. I´ve yet to see a RL military that only uses ONE type of... ...well, anything, really.

So why the hell haven't we seen any V-wing, Theta class shuttle, CIS warships, Juggernauts, AT-APs or other toys? I want mine, damnit!
