Could Darth Maul wield force lightning?

We never saw him do it, but on the other hand, out of all of Palpatine's three underlings that we've seen so far, Maul seemed to be by far the most completely given over to the dark side.

Vader still had the light in him and turned eventually.

Dooku seemed reluctant to kill unless nescesary, and really thought he was helping out the people of the galaxy in the long term.

But Maul was just a cauldron of pure anger rage and hatred.

So what do you think?

Well, Palpy and Yoda were very experienced in the use of the force and could use force lightning very easily, but Maul, while being a Darth may not have been as experienced.

Sounds reasonable. Though Maul never seemed to be the type of apprentice to be trained in every aspect of the dark side.

While I doubt Yoda would have used FOrce Lightning, I wouldn't put it out of Maul's reach.

Are there any scenes in the Darth Maul comics/books where he should have used force lightning?

Hmmm, hard to say. He killed one guy by just being a dark evil bastard (the guy tried to read Maul's mind and croaked). Maul did the Force choke and stole a guys weapon with the force, otherwise he mostly sliced & diced.

A Dathomir witch did use Force Lightning on Maul. It knocked him down but didn't hurt him, which scared the shit out of her.

The one time I think he could have used Force Ligthning to good effect was when he killed the leader of Black Sun, as it was the fight didn't last that long.

I don't remember the Shadow Hunter book well enough to say but I think there are times where he could have used it to get the job done quicker but since he was trying to avoid the notice of the Jedi I don't think it would have been a good idea for him to use Force lightning on Corusant.

I don't think Maul was that deep into the force, and i doubt Palpy was teaching him everything. Maul was so good with his saber he didn't need to use lightening.

On another matter will we see Palpy weilding a Lightsaber in pt III?

MY hope for Episode 3 is a reverse of the Maul fight. Vader and Palpatine vs Windu, with Windu going down after kicking ass for a while. Have him buy Yoda and Obi wan time to escape with the twins.

Fuck that.

Palpatine vs. Yoda.

OR

Palpatine vs. Mace.

Lord Sidious does not need the young one's help to destroy puny Jedi.

In Shadow Hunter he never uses force lightning. In the comic series, the Dathomir witch blasts him with lightning but he repels it with the Darkside. (which is what Luke TRIES to do in RotJ's novelisation). The only time I've seen Maul use lightning was in Jedi Power Battles.

The only two times we see Maul fighting is on Tatoone which was a very short fight and Maul wasn't going full force, he only had one lightblade activated, and wanted the Queen, who was in the middle of escaping.
And the other is on Naboo, vs basicly a Jedi Knight and a Jedi Master force surpressing him, he may not have been able to get so much as a force punch in(the one he got against Obi-Wan didn't even knock him off his feet), much less a consentrated force lightning attack.

Obi-Wan wasn't a Jedi Knight. He was a Padawan. :P

Actually, he was more or less a Jedi Knight. I forget the source, but Qui-gon was reluctant to let him go because he didn't give too much though to the philosophy of the force.

And remember, he began teaching Anakin right after Qui-gon bought it.

He was a Jedi right after Qui-Gon kicked the bucket.

Possibly and like stated before he was against a Master and an Knight(in all but name)

I doubt he had enough to unleash it in that battle.

Though I believe that it sorta got diluted in AoTC, because RoTJ made it appear that Force Lightning was some ultimate Dark Force weapon, but either way...I say sure, but Maul never had the need or the chance to use it.

I don't think AoTC diluted it - there is no reason why Count Dooku, a malevolent, extremely skilled Sith Lord should be unable to use Force lightning. The EU is more responsible for the dilution of force lightning.

I think it still is. Remember, Dooku is a Jedi Master and a pupil of Yoda's. I'm not suprised that such a powerful and knowlegable Sith Lord would have Force Lightening.

I know...it just I felt it that I liked it personally that only one being who gave Yoda pause knew it.

I mean Dooku has fantastic credentials, but it for me seemed better when only that old geezer had it.

It would seem out of character to me: Maul struck me as being much more interested in killing Jedi up close and personal, with his saber. I can't picture him spending the time it would take to master the use of Force Lightning.

I feel it strengthens it even more now.

Maul was little more than a grunt.
And I'd hate to see Palpatine wield a lightsaber. That would suck big-time. Palpatine NOT a Jedi (or any other kind of sword-wielder) in fact he looks down on Jedi with contempt - see RoTJ.

Doesn't seem like it's Maul's style. Maul seems like the sort of Sith who's really physical and in-your-face. Evidence: His weapon is a double-bladed lightsabre that is suicidally difficult to use. That alone speaks volumes about the kind of Force powers somebody like Maul would use. Not to mention all those tattoos.

You would be correct. Palpy is a politician, which is why he ends up being dictator, for Palpy knows, as other sith befor him have not, that power comes from the manipulation of the power of the state as much as the darkside.

I know it's not entirely canon, but in the PSX game base don Ep1, Maul had lightning powers.

Even though its at the bottom of the "quasi-canon spectrum" of SW, Maul uses (red) lightning in The Phantom Menace and Jedi Power Battles video games.

In fact, in JPB, he has a red "shield" force power (protection), an energy field blast that comes out from his body, and a red "laser beam" that he shoots out of his hand (destruction).
