OK
First is Bly an ARC Commander or just regular Clone Commander (like Cody)?
Second how many first generation ARCs there are/was in total?
Third do any ARCs command Clone Commando squads regulary?

Are these supposed to be descendants of the "special commando units awaiting your orders sir" that were mentioned to Mace Windu in AOTC?
The ROTS VD calls them ARC's (Advanced Recon Commandos, hope I got that right) and I actually didn't recognize them until pointed out (they didn't have the huge capes and fluffy jetpacks like in the cartoons/action figures, just some little skirts).

ARCs(yeah you got it right) are a special branch of the Clone Commandos (trained by Jango Fett himself) that were in stasis until Battle of Kamino. I think those special commando units were Clone Commandos (one level down from the ARCs).
and you didn't answer the questions.

ARC’s are Commandoes who have recieved training directly from Jango, Their training leaves them as much more free willed.
Later in the war they train the next generation of Commander’s and ARC’s.

I know what the ARCs are, now could somebody answer the bloody questions?

Sorry
I believe ARC’s command spec-ops squads normally,
ie Republic commando, although they were probably clone commandoes.

the Trooper in Republic Commando (the book and the game) are Clone Commandos

ARCs are nearly unmodified Jango clones given special training by Jango himself. Later, they trained the second generation ARCs (with new deep programming to make them more receptive to orders) and Clone Commanders who were designed to bridge the gap between Jedi generals and the rest of the troops.
Clone Commandos are standard clones with specialized training and Katarn-class body armor, and typically work in teams of 4.

Does anyone know if any of the ARC troopers actually followed Order 66?
They had free will, so mabye some of them refused, or tried to protect their Jedi generals........

wasn't there only one surviving first-generation ARC trooper by the time of Order 66?

I believe I read in another post that
Aayla Secura was slain by an ARC.
Ah, here's the
thread.

The EU makes it even more confusion by giving us "Republic Commandos" (in the game of the same name and the novel "Hard Contact" which I never bothered to read). The ROTS Visual Dictionary threw them in too, even though we never see them in the movie (right?). In the demo mission you rescue Tarful, the same Tarful that's in ROTS. I haven't beaten the game so I can't tell you much else about any supposed connections (though they spot General Grevious too, from far off).
I noticed this on the RC forum at LucasArts.com. The fans were VERY reluctant to admit that their heroes would kill Jedi, and tried to argue that these guys had free will, etc, they wouldn't follow such an order.
Of course we have the movie itself showing Cody trading quips and smiling at Obi-Wan one minute, then ordering his execution the next. He'll obey orders from his Master, Lord Sideous, the Emperor, over anybody else. I'm sure the Commandos (assuming they weren't killed) would do the same.
And yes, the ARC's do kill Aayla Secura. We see the ARCs (the troopers with skirts) and we see her die at their hands. Again, very difficult for fans to accept, but there you go.
Let me guess.. an EU novel/fanfic will spring up... "uh, they were just using really low powered stun blasts, and faked the killing, and then the ARCs and Secura ran off to their secret mountain lodge, sipping fine wines and made sweet love to each other for the remainder of their days!"
For all intents and purposes the ARC's obeyed Order 66 like everyone else. We have no evidence of any Troopers NOT obeying (or trying to carry out before they were killed) Order 66. There might be some EU novel to say otherwise, but I haven't seen it. If anything I would think these Elite Units would be even more indoctrinated into the Empire philosophy, not less and even more loyal to carrying out the Order, not less, but that's my opinion.

Arcs and RCs are completely unrelated. Commandos are essentially regular clones, except that they have specialized training, better equiptment, and work in small squads on special ops missions. Arcs are typically solo operatives (or in large groups), their providing support on the battle field. They are mostly un-modified and have a somewhat higher capability for free action than other clones.

According to the Databank there's
Clone Commandos,
ARC troopers, and the much later
Storm Commandos.
I was under the impression that a Republic Commando was really a Clone Commando.

When have we ever seen a Commando working alone? Not in the movies!
I thought the whole point of Commandos wasn't to be "Rambo" (that's hollywood nonesense) just for small units on special missions or elite units. They're not Jango Fett style assassins... are they?
They have to be modified like the otehrs or they'd be kids still (the Clone Army was only begun 13 years ago, remember). They have growth acceleration, and they probably have been modified in other ways too, right? I know the RC game plays up their "individualism" and stuff, but let's be realistic. Their job is to die for their country, not think outside of their field and decide they're maybe fighting for the wrong side or a lost cause and desert or try to take over. They're loyal killing machines, even if they have better equipment because they're better shots.
Still, even if for some reason the RC's were complete individuals, akin to your normal everyday person today, and they were given orders to kill the people they were working with (in the RC game you don't work with Jedi though)... ie: former allies, would they do it? In the real world there's all kinds of backstabbing that goes on. Soldiers are ordered to fire on civilian targets and they do it. People execute their own people all the time in wars. Is it indoctrination? Is it the fear of threats? They're "just following orders" so I don't see the big deal. Fans hate to see their heroes doing evil, but in this case, it seems that was Palpatine's intention from the start, and he didn't take any chances.
Still, for all I know, in the EU, Delta Squad said "Fuck You, Sir!" to Palpatine upon recieving Order 66, went AWOL and joined the Rebellion...

Sounds like a good plot for Republlic Commando 3.

Don't you mean "Rebel Commando"?
Those guys are getting issued felt vests, blue shirts and white biker helmets pronto! They died valiantly protecting Princess Leia onboard her blockade runner 20 years later...
I haven't even beaten the game yet, but there are a billion topics on the stupid-ass LA forums (sorry LA guys, not your fault, but some moderation might help!) with spoiler topics like
what happened to sev? did he die or did they just leave him? did he turn to the dark side because he was left alone? blah blah blah *groan*
But there seem to be no plans for "Republic Commando 2: Electric Boogaloo" much less RC3. And LA hasn't even gotten around to patching all the bugs and omissions in the game (the only patch just added one new MP map).

Clone Commmandos are not "Rambos" though they do sometimes work solo during a mission (in these cases it's better to avoid contact (done in both Hard Contact and the game) then go shoot everything that moves.
and is it canon that A-17 was the only ARC to survive the battle of Kamino, he was the only of his three man team, but there's A-98 in Cestus Deception.
and like it's said Clone Commandos are (almost) regular clones with special training.

Y'all should visit theforce.net boards one of these days-- all your questions will quickly be answered there.
I don't have time now, but tomorrow I'll straighten you out about the clones. For starters, the ones with Aayla are not ARCs.

Based on what I've read and seen, Bly and the rest of the clone commanders are ARC trooper trained but are not actually ARC's themselves. Given the way they were depicted in the movie Bly's unit, the 327th Star Corps, struck me as more of a mechanized infantry unit rather than an elite special forces unit if they were actually all ARC troopers.

Btw, I finished the game yesterday (Republic Commando). Took me 11 (not in one sitting, of coures) hours (longer than I thought, I heard only 6-9 hours of gameplay).
And a special message for all the kids on LucasArts forums who beat the game in 1 day:
THANKS FOR SPOILING THE ENDING YOU JERKS!
yep, sev got left behind. he's probably dead, and there's no plans for a sequel, deal with it! and delta squad probably went out and valiently killed some no-name jedi before they died on some suicide mission or were "de-commissioned" when they stopped being useful to the Empire.

I only said that because it seems this "army of one" stuff is just rhetoric. Since when do "Armies" send one soldier out on a mission all alone? I'm not talking sentry duty or some training simulator stuff, but this so-called solo mission. It sounds like soldier-wanking fiction fluff. The point of having armies isn't to have one guy go out and get killed. They do that in video games to make it challenging (one great player vs. legions of dumb enemies) and because programming decent friendly AI takes up more memory and time.
Even Jedi don't go around solo most of the time (Luke didn't have much choice, since he was kind of the only job in town).
And about the ARCs, they are never called that onscreen, this info I got from the ROTS VD, it leads us to believe those are ARCs shooting Aayla (or were intended to be).

Was that a joke or an insult?
If its an insult, please bother to actually read the book before you make another.
If it is a joke:
Funny.
