What would you REMOVE from the EU

Since many have said they would keep some of the EU, and trash the rest, tell us what you'd lose.

1. Han & Leia gettin' busy. (Courtship of Princess Leia, etc)
2. Dark Empire, where Palpatine Returns, Luke nearly falls, Leia becomes a Jedi.
3. Thrawn Trilogy
4. Corellia Trilogy (Centerpoint Station is a Weapon!)
5. Vong series. (State how many of them)
6. Prequels (HanSolo Trilogy, Lando Trilogy, Pre-Empire novels)

(Edit: Realized that you can't pick more than one, so changed it to what you'd like to see gone)

well... skipping the confusion in that your poll asks what I'd keep and your post asks what I'd loose...

it's really not fair, considering I've read NONE of it, but I'd scrap the Vong... all of it... and the whole NJO series too. Everything I've heard about it sounds unbearably stupid.

I'd definitely keep Thrawn and the X Wing series... and yes, I know I'll probably get flamed for the later...

beyond that, my memory of the books is fuzzy :P

Get rid of the Vong, plain and simple.

Also, the Prequel Trilogy isn't part of the EU. ;)

EDIT: And with #2, I think you mean Dark Empire.

Keep Thrawn. He was awesome.

Scrap the entire bloody Vong thing. While we're at it, JAT, DarkSaber and Crystal Star too. Courtship wasn't that bad and it laid the ground for Solo Command so I guess it can stay.

Some of the NJO is pretty bad, but I like a lot of it.

All of Zahn's work is good IMHO.

Kevin J. Anderson's books are average really. I don't really like them much. But I don't know if we should necessarily dump it. Some of the characters he created are interesting somewhat. Daala, while stupid as hell lol, and very unlucky, was a somewhat complicated character.

I'm not a big comic/graphic novel fan, but a lot of people like that area so I can't really say there.

The EU is so big it's really hard for me to wrap my head around all of it. There is a ton of content.

I don't really think I'd dump any of it honestly. It's all sorta interconnected so even the bad stuff is important. That's part of what's interesting about the EU, it all pretty much fits into a contiguous timeline.

Isn't it 'Dark Empire'?

and off the lift I'd scrape the Vong but I'm not voting cos it confuses me by saying 'keep' instead of 'chuck'

Holly Shit!

I just voted to 'keep' the Vong!

Curse you LadyTevar for having a contradictory thread title and poll question! *shakes fist*

Yeah this is designed awful. We vote to keep what we want but the thread asks us what we want to remove? I think you should have a mod lock this and restart.

No need. I have reset the poll.

I've also made it read "Dark Empire" and removed Farpoint station from the OP.

Out of those choices, I would bid Corellia adu (although, if I could choose from them all, Crystal Star would be long gone.) As for the NJO, I really enjoyed it with the exception of a few books, and I thought the new concepts it introduced and the galactic shake up it brought were welcome. The NJO has an overly bad reputation, mostly spawned from a few fanatical haters spouting out extreme negativity, and those who havent read the books picking up on it and refusing to even try any of the series.

I agree, except for that one book that was all about Jaina being bitchy, and the ludicrously low fatality figure stated in another book, NJO was pretty good. Correlia, while decently written, was one giant WTF moment. Seriously, Humans had been living on Corellia for God knows how many thousands of years and never noticed the giant underground repulsor? We have sattelite imaging tech today that could spot the damned thing.

None of whats up here is the worst their is. Ewok TV, The Chrystal Star, and the BFC were all much worse. The first because it was just goddamn stupid kids fantasy, the second because it stank like shit and had no connection to any other part of canon, and the third because it seemed to revel in contradicting both th movies and the rest of the EU.

Of the choices listed, I've only read the Thrawn books, Dark Empire, and the Corellia trilogy. I can't judge any of the others, except bits of Star By Star. As such, I vote against the Corellia trilogy. I only read the first book, so maybe it gets better, but shit I ain't finishing reading it. I would gladly drop that piece of shit from the EU. It has yet another superweapon, although I do admit Centerpoint Station actually does sound pretty cool, it's still Yet Another Superweapon. Also, the NR can't spare a fleet of warships to send to Corellia, so they have to go begging to the Bakurans? And somehow the entire system is isolated thanks to interdictors... must be a lot of 'em.

(I read this years ago so the details are a little fuzzy)

Voted the Vong. I just don't really like the concept. I havn't read any of the books, but just the idea of it doesn't grow on me.

I vote 'Courtship', because of the ridiculous left-wing feminazi fantasy it presents, not to mention bad science and grossly incompetent villains whose presence only demonstrates the heros' incompetence.

The novel states that the Hapan Matrarchy was originally founded by pirates who took pretty captives to be their wives, and that the wives came to dominate the star systems-- swearing never to let men dominate them again-- after the men were killed in battle. Such an opportunity has never occured in the human race's 5000 years of war, and is unlikely to ever occur.

Seriously, you cannot run a modern industrialized society without gender equality. The Germans learned a harsh lesson in WW2 when American use of female factory workers freed more men for combat, giving the Allies numberical superiority the Axis. As comforting as it may be-- to a radical feminist-- to imagine a society dominated by women, how long do you think it will last against a more efficient society, like the CIS, the Galactic Republic, or the Galactic Empire?

The novel mentions Han trying to be quiet to avoid being detected by aircraft with sensitive microphones. The sound of the airflow around the aircraft will render the microphones useless-- anyone who's ever driven at high speeds with the windows open/top down should know this!

And the nightwitches-- why are they stuck on Dathomir? Why can't they work together to snare the minds of a passing starship's crew, make the ship land on the planet, and escape? Or are they too busy screwing their male concubines to think of this?

It'll be simpler to list what I would keep:

Novels:

Everything by Zahn and Stackpole.
Alliston's X-Wing books
AC Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy
The orginal Han Solo Trilogy
The Lando Callrissian Trilogy
Courtship of Princess Leia
The various Star Wars Tales collections (a few stories with in excepted)

Other Stuff:

Dark Forces
X-wing and Tie Fighter games

Equal power and equal productivity are not identical concepts. The latter usually gives leverage to the former but that's not always the case and one should know better.

And further more, in an economy as automated as Star Wars's, the old truths don't necessarily hold true.

The Vong ships being strong were one thing, But those stupid “black hole” shields, the :wank: Voxyn and the pussified Jedi were what really rankled.

At least the Tyranids use overwhelming force rather than just wanking :P
