Tales of the Bounty Hunters... thoughts?

I know it's an old book, but what else is new to talk about?

I've just finished reading all of it except Fett's story. SPOILERS review as follows.

IG-88: At first I thought having four bodies would have made him not unique, it was okay. The story steadily got more and more humorous and ironic as it progresed, which was okay. The whole him being the core of the DS2 was stupid, thought it did make a funny scene. The ending was also amusing, how the writer ended right before everything fell apart. On a technical viewpoint, it was impossible. How could one IG-88 module download the entire Executor's computer core?

Dengar: Liked it a lot. Cute story. Dengar's an interesting character, though his road to redemption seemed to be too compressed. I'd like to see his partnership with Boba Fett, especially his wedding where Fett's the best man. I don't care if you film-purists hate the notion of him surviving the sarlacc pit. C'mon, he's Boba Fett! He's a constant of the SW universe! He's the most sly and devious one of all! Like Moriarty, he's a villain who just can't die.

Bossk: It didn't focus on Bossk much, which I guess makes sense, since he's the most mundane, evil vile cold-blooded killer. It just felt too pat, though, what with the heroes' minisupercomputer saving the day.

Zuckus and 4-Lom: I liked both characters' descriptions, though they weren't much of bounty hunters. I guess they're the nicest of the bunch. I have since found out via Wikipedia that the two never stay in the Rebellion, which is a complete and utter disappointment. Does 4-Lom's scene with the young Jedis ever take place? A droid that learns the Force... is that even possible?

What did you think of the book? Is the Bounty Hunters War trilogy any better?

IIRC, the characters in Bossk's story appear in a couple of the other "Tales" books as well.

Bossk's story was rather disappointing for me. I really wanted to see him being a cold-blooded wookiee-skinning psychopath. Instead, he was a fall guy. LAME.

Yeah, Bossk's story was quite boring. It was the only one in that collection that I didnt actually finish. Otherwise, I thought that the book was pretty good, Zuckuss' story especially and even IG-88s (the most inventive plot KJA ever came up with IMO.)

Can anyone tell me what happened after the Boba Fett story? It ends with Han and Fett in a standoff. Han asks Fett to just walk away, but Fett refuses and suggests that they should shoot it out and let fate decide who wins and loses. Obviously, Han survives, since he appears in many later books. However, what happens to Fett?

They agree to a draw and both walk away, or rather, back away still pointing their guns at each other.

Cause as seen above, Boba Fett doesn't die :-D

Most of Dengar/Fett's story is also in Bounty Hunter Wars, which is the same cannon level as most of the EU as far as I've seen.

Is BHW worth it? I've read the first book only.. but been thinking of tracking down the others.

BHW has some good moments, some atrocious moments and a hell of a letdown ending.... the instigating incident that sets off all the events in the story turns out to be a dead end. Essentially, nothing happens.

The writer also gets caught up in minutiae a li-i-i-ittle too much. Action scenes take way to many paragraphs, describing events in extremely intricate detail, sometimes spanning a couple pages to cover just a few seconds' worth of action. If you're in to that sort of thing, well, you'll love it. If not, you'll find yourself losing interest.

I always liked the Zuckuss/4LOM story as well. I've thought the idea of a robot thief to be rather novel. Too bad he turns into a pile of scrap and gets some programming changes.

For what it's worth, Boba Fett and Dengar are shown operating together in Dark Empire as well.

I wonder if Fett showed up to the wedding in full armor + blasters?

Better than not, under the armour he's a walking mass of scars because of the Saarlac.

Fett never willingly takes his armor off, he even drinks in the damn thing, not sure about eating though, but it's possible. He is quite paranoid.

But going back to the BHW books, I liked them, thought that they were fun. Also, is it either Tales of the Bounty Hunters or Tales of the New Republic where Fett takes on an entire Imperial Base to deliver a message?

IIRC Mara Jade killed a bounty hunter in that book, but that bounty hunter was never named and the description doesn't quite fit Dengar.

Dark Force Rising Bottom p79 top p80 wrote:....she holstered her weapon and knelt down beside him.

There was, as she'd expected precious little to find. An ID - probably forged- giving his name as Dengar Roth......

emphasis mine, also Dengar isn't also a one of kind name like Fett (most of the Fett-clan was destroyed with the rest of the Mandalorians). Would you use your own name if trying to hunt somebody you know will flee at first sign trouble.

Why would a bounty hunter use the name of another, thats stupid, like Clint Eastwood calling himself John Wayne to hide his actual identidy.

that would Clint Estwood calling himself john smith to hide himself or some nobody calling himself Clint Estwood to ride on his fame, Also do know that Roth is Dengar's last name?

Well, there is another example: There was this bounty hunter Jodo Kast, who went by the name of Boba Fett for a while until Fett found out about it and killed him. He stole contracts from Fett.

Really? Was Jodo Kast not an identidy that Thrawn assumed while doing a wee job for Vader on Corellia?

I liked IG-88's story up until he downloaded the Executor's entire computer core and put himself into the DSII core. Although it makes BF look damn good.

Bossk's story was boring and lame.

Dengar's story was pretty interesting, but too compressed.

BF's story has been rendered invalid as a result of AotC.

Boba Fett appears later fighting with a group of guys wearing Mandalorian armor in "The Unifying Force".

Not entirely. Jaster Meerel has been made a different person in the CW era EU, one of Boba's mentor figures. Later on, Boba encouraged the suspicion that he was in fact the legendary figure, to keep some anonimity. The story in Bounty Hunters can be interprited as a retelling of Jaster's life, applied to Boba.

Thrawn assumed his identity for a singular time after Fett killed him, IIRC.
