It's not nearly that simple. There's pages and pages of changes in the 1997 Editions alone. Lucas has really tinkered with the films over the years. The 2004 changes are just the straw that broke the camel's back for many fans.Drunk Monkey wrote:What’s the big deal about people and the original non special edition trilogy, It’s the same fucking trilogy just the special edition has Jabba in ANH, Ian Mcdiarmd in TESB, and CGI Dancers in ROTJ.
Then keep the LD player and the disks. And sure, you could say "well just track down an obsolete LD player, and an out of print LD original trilogy set and encode your own version onto a modern format," but really. And the VHS tapes are not an option for preservation or quality.
The quality difference between the DVD scenes and the LD scenes would be telling.HemlockGrey wrote:Could you theoretically reencode the LD's onto a DVD, and then splice in certain scenes from the originals onto a purchased copy of the DVDs? Or, you could find a torrent of somebody who has done that already....Kurgan wrote:And sure, you could say "well just track down an obsolete LD player, and an out of print LD original trilogy set and encode your own version onto a modern format," but really.
