You think an online petition will get GL to release the OT in their original format?

I laugh at you.

Been there, done that. The forums at that site are pretty good. Hvae information and torrent links to LD-to-DVD transfers of the originals.

Lucas has stated unequivocally that the Original versions are simply not his vision. Releasing them would be tantamount to an author releasing a rough draft of his book. As stupid as some of us may think it is that's just the way it is. I have my VHS tapes and frankly I don't watch them anymore in favor of the new versions. Nor do I have a driving need to watch the originals.

Worth a try I suppose. Anything to get Han shooting first again.

Heres a tip..buy a old Laserdisk player and then go scouting for the "Star Wars Trillogy : Definitive Collection"..it's the old trillogy Digitally Remastered BUt with no new scenes..it's a jewel.

What’s the big deal about people and the original non special edition trilogy, It’s the same fucking trilogy just the special edition has Jabba in ANH, Ian Mcdiarmd in TESB, and CGI Dancers in ROTJ.

It's not nearly that simple. There's pages and pages of changes in the 1997 Editions alone. Lucas has really tinkered with the films over the years. The 2004 changes are just the straw that broke the camel's back for many fans.

And hey, at least the 1997 SE's still have Sebastian Shaw as ghost-Anakin and Boba Fett's original voice! It's Lucas's fault for not releasing the originals on DVD alongside his updated versions like other directors of popular movies have done.

And sure, you could say "well just track down an obsolete LD player, and an out of print LD original trilogy set and encode your own version onto a modern format," but really. And the VHS tapes are not an option for preservation or quality.

Then keep the LD player and the disks.

Could you theoretically reencode the LD's onto a DVD, and then splice in certain scenes from the originals onto a purchased copy of the DVDs? Like replacing the Greedo-Han scene, the final ghost scene, etc.

The quality difference between the DVD scenes and the LD scenes would be telling.

Or, you could find a torrent of somebody who has done that already....
