Star Wars minus R2-D2

Well, as we all know, R2-D2 is the *real* main character of the Star Wars saga. So, imagine what would have happened if R2-D2 was destroyed before the prequels?

The most immediate effects I see are:

Amidala's ship gets blown up.

Padme, Obi-wan, and Qui-gon die.

Anakin never meets Padme, never finds out he's the chosen one, and stays on Tatooine.

The saga as we now it never happens, the galaxy is conquered by the Sith and no one can prevent it.

Amidala's ship isn't blown up; they were trying to capture it.

So Amidala probably ends up signing the treaty, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon die, and Anakin is never found. Palpatine continues his diabolical scheme, but with everything different, we can't know how it would turn out.
