Master_of_Tumbleweeds writes "Rick McCallum, co-producer of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, appeared at a press conference in Japan earlier today. He spoke about the future of Star Wars, specifically about the 3D updates of all six films and the upcoming TV series. McCallum said that the 3D films would be released within two to three years, and that the TV shows would take place during the 20 year time period between Episode III and IV. He also mentioned that one of the shows would follow the adventures of a young Luke Skywalker, and reveal how certain characters ended up together. The show starts production next year."

So the TV series is going to be like "The Outer Limits"?, I hope they have a couple episodes which focus on the Empire.

I always believed that Star Wars Anthology series would do very well. There is so much to work with!

The adventures of a young Luke Skywalker? Uhn. I have the feeling this will be shitty. Young Luke Skywalker was an intentionally suppressed and bored youth with nothing to do but rice up speeders and work the moisture farm. He hadn't even been to Mos Eisley before, as implied by the film. I bet you they'll end up shitting on everything just for character recognition sake.
I just don't see all that potential there.

Perhaps its Luke's first years in the Rebel Alliance.
One can hope.

Yes, this is worrying. Hopefully they don't turn Luke into some whiny TPM Anakin kid who yells "Yippie" every two minutes.

He also mentioned that one of the shows would follow the adventures of a young Luke Skywalker,
Oh, fun...
"Uncle Owen, can I borrow the Skyhopper?"
"NO!"
"Uncle Owen, can I join the Academy?"
"NO!"
"Uncle Owen, can I go with Biggs and Tank to the Twi'lek stripper show?"
"NO!"
"Uncle Owen, can I go visit that crazy old Ben Kenobi?
"NO!"

That would be truly horrible...
On the good side of things, if they do a 3D version of the first 6 films, maybe they can make Phantom Menace...uh...not suck as much? Also, they could maybe get the cast together to do VA work for the Zahn Trilogy ^_^ 7, 8, 9, it'd be real fine...

Who's going to play Young Luke?

I can only imagine a Star Wars rendition of American Grafitti.
And I'm not sure I even want to know what this flim-flam is about of '3D updates of all 6 movies'. Teh-whah?

It's the same movies... ONLY IN 3-D!
Seriously, I have no idea how that'll work. 3-D movies are kind of planned out from the start to be 3-D... it's hard to do good 3-D effects on everything otherwise.

GL will find away, if can make crappie puppets CGI then he can make the saga 3D.

Young Luke Skywalker and 3D? Oh joy.
Who the hell wants to watch a show about a bored farmboy? And I would rather they spend time on good, meaningful updates to the films (like an expanded Battle of Endor with the Communications ship, B-wings in action, and full broadsides being delivered) than on gimmicky crap like 3D.

This is pure bullshit. Young Luke Skywalker will not be the "star" of any show, unless it´s a one-off episode about Skyhopper racing. Rick the Dick has spewed bull before, why believe him now?
Lucas said "no central characters" in the TV show, I choose to believe him over McCallum.
and 3D? Oh joy.
3D
battles. Think about it. <--- And that´s old news, Rick didn´really say anything new there.

Mmm... tentacles...
Oh, and to add to your list:
"Uncle Owen, can I go to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters?"
"NO!"
Anyway, this seems like it could have some potential, although the "young Luke" angle doesn't sound that great.
What exactly do they mean by 3D updates to the SW movies? I'm hoping it's not the sorta thing where you put on glasses and stare in pseudo-awe as Luke repeatedly thrusts his lightsaber at the camera while saying "WhooOOOoooa!! WhooOOOoooa!!"

No, I'd say it's more likely that they're going to re-make the movies in CGI...while I'm kind of leery of it (unless they put a LOT of effort into it), it is kinda cool because it'd let them use the original voice actors (who're now too old to convincingly do live-action work as the characters), and maybe fix some of the mistakes in the movies. (Like, Greedo shooting first, for example.)
They could also maybe MAKE THE ZAHN TRILOGY AS EPISODES 7-9...sorry, a little fanatical about that.

No, they are going to convert them to a 3D format. Yes, it will probably be cheesy as hell, but it will be "true" 3D, with some lighter glasses and shit.

A TV show based around a young Luke Skywalker would do worse than Enterprise.
The show would do best around a platoon of stormtroopers as they go on different missions around the galaxy. Of course, that fits just as well with a starfighter squadron, crew of a small ship or just a combination of all the above.
Or, center around smugglers or bounty hunters. Like a Star Wars copy of Bebop or Firefly. To really pull the Imperials in, have a fugitive (like a Jedi or a former Dark Jedi) come on board.
Just a few ideas that could a lot better than Luke can. Unfortunately, I'm not the creator.

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
Argh, why do I have this sinking feeling that this is going to be another Ewoks or Droids series?

I'd can't wait to see the Battle of Endor in 3D. The Death Star runs anyone???

But, fortunately you´re not Rick McCallum either, who is known for talking out of his ass on a regular basis. Funny guy, but I don´t take him seriously.

I would really, really hope that they don't do something based on the main characters of Star Wars. Do something new, original, something different. Do something about the lives of average people caught up in the fight, do something about Rebel sympathizers, do something about a cadet out of the Imperial Academy who has moral objections...but god, please do not do something about Luke's pre/post-teen years.
If this tv show is a definate go, how are they going to manage the SFXs, the actor's pay, and other fees with a tv show budget? I'm just afraid its going to become a shitty show and follow in Star Trek's path (good actors and overall SFXs but shitty plots).

Meh...maybe they'll go in Stargate's footsteps? (Great actors, not-bad SFX, and weird-but-cool plots)
