Jr. Infinites: Grievous Survives, Starts Guerilla War
This is my sad, dead on arrival scenario. If ‘twas only plausible, or at least possible, it would have made a cool AU for the entire original trilogy.
Ahem.
Anyhow, this is my alternative version for that: Grievous almost dies on Utapau, he falls into a ravine but doesn’t get his internal organs vaped, Obi-Wan leaves him for dead, he is somehow rescued and undergoes medical treatments, he awakes from a coma during Order 66, his connection to Sidious is somehow damaged, plot contrivance informs him that the Republic had not bombed his shuttle, that it was a set-up all along.
I guess he thinks “screw y’all” to the Separatists, realizes that his biggest enemy is Sidious/Palpatine (if he sees the broadcasts he’ll know they’re the same guy), consolidates his control over the droid army remnants, and retreats to the Outer Rim to begin a war against the Empire.
How far does he get? How long does he last? And would it be possible for him to get better treatments? Bacta handwavium?

I just have to say this: vader vs. 8 armed greivios.
Well, After he realizes order 66 kills jedi, I think he would dusquise himself with new armour and get himself lightsabers. He meets with leia and mon mothra and tries to join them. Unfortudently the differing views lead to a three way war. While in the outer rim he tries to move as many old battle droids as he can to the planet he's on, and begins to make his own army (the building up of the army happens while leia grows up. The rebels never get to combat the death star because greivios blows up to many fighters. then the death star comes for him. while he's being chased around, the rebels build up power. after the rebels build up enough they wait, maybe even hint where greivios is. when greivios is destroyed, they move more sqaudrons than ever to blow up the death star. However, the second deathstar is made while the first one is still operational, and is smaller, faster, and has less troops with the same firepower. The first deathstar is blown up just as they are beggining to test the second deathstar. everything goes on fine after words exept luke might not meet obi wan, because greivios might come and get revenge "your powers are weak, old man! "

WWDD What would dogbert do?
Didn't Greivous get all of his backing from the Banking Guild? With all the separatists' leaders dead I don't think Greivous would have the support network to wage war against anyone. He'd be on the run from the Empire, with few places he could hide since he was so recognizable. Maybe he's fall in with some criminal organization to pay the bills.

So, the Droid army doesnt need to be maintained? They dont need ammunition? They don't need fuel for their ships? The Jazz Intern wrote:What bills? He knows where the Droid army went. What do you need to pay a droid army?

He'd probably play pirate on the Imperial ships to maintain fundsNoble Ire wrote:So, the Droid army doesnt need to be maintained? They dont need ammunition? Not just for the droid army, but for himself. He is a cyborg, after all. I'd think that he would require a lot of maintenence to stay in working order.Noble Ire wrote:So, the Droid army doesnt need to be maintained? They dont need ammunition? It would make sense for them to do so. I wonder how banking works in the Republic/Empire. Is there some equivalent to a Swiss bank account where funds can be kept in secret or does the Empire have the power to seize accounts of its enemies?Battlehymn Republic wrote:The Separatist Council didn't give him any accounts for funding?

What, no more comments? I don't think this scenario is as implausible as my original. There's less hard parts to consider:
1. Grievous does not die.
2. He finds out Palpatine was behind his attack, and turns against him.
Wheras, my original had
1. Grievous does not die.
2. He finds out Palpatine was behind his attack, and turns against him.
3. Grievous is smart enough to keep the Separatist Council alive, and to work with them for the time being.
4. The "Second Republic" is strong enough to actually exist.
5. The SR would agree to work with the Separatists against the Empire.
I still think that it would be cool to have a scene in the alternate OT where Luke or someone meets the Rebel leadership, and huddled in one corner, breathing heavily, is the near-dying enemy-of-the-Empire Grievous, almost like Rommel in the German Resistance.

If Grievous survived his encounter with Obi-Wan he would never have gotten off the planet, which happened to be controlled by clones at the time. Obi-Wan took his fighter, and he's a helluva lot better at sneaking around than Grievous is. Obi-Wan moves like a shadow, whereas Grievous clomps around like a Humvee with feet.

Perhaps a better OP would be for Obi-Wan to uncover the Sith treachery and confront Grievous with the evidence on Utapau (sp?), whereupon Grievous orders the droid army to stand down and surrenders to the Republic. The Jedi attack on Palpatine and the subsequent activation of Order 66 go ahead as per the original movie, but Obi-Wan (always thinking a step or two ahead) gets Reformed Grievous out of prison after surviving the Clone attack and the two escape the planet together.Darth Wong wrote:If Grievous survived his encounter with Obi-Wan he would never have gotten off the planet, which happened to be controlled by clones at the time. Okay. I'll go with that, since no one's accepted either of my previous Jr. Infinities.Striderteen wrote:Perhaps a better OP would be for Obi-Wan to uncover the Sith treachery and confront Grievous with the evidence on Utapau (sp?), whereupon Grievous orders the droid army to stand down and surrenders to the Republic. Okay, this is my last call for anyone still interested in my first two “Grievous Survives” infinities. If there’s no one else, then I’ll just do the one where Obi-Wan reveals to him that he was set up.
I may still go back to the idea of having a Second Republic set up early, planets declaring the Empire is invalid. However, my original idea simply requires too many givens, since first Grievous needs the initiative to keep the Separatists alive, the Separatists need the initiative to contact the liberal Senators, they all need the initiative to cooperate… too many givens.
Also, I must stress that I’m not trying to create a wank-eriffic situation just to keep Grievous alive. I’m trying to create a Turtledove’s Great War scenario with unlikely alliances to save underdogs, not a Harry Harrison’s Stars and Stripes Forever where brutal enemies kiss and make up (as opposed to grimly agree to a truce and to fight a greater enemy for the time being), or a S.M. Stirling’s Draka the underdog takes over the world.
I might write a fanfiction, nonetheless. AU fanfics are usually better received than discussions, apparently. Is it because the original Infinities comics were so bad?

Also, since Grievous' sadism and anger directly stem from the implants secretly installed by the Geonosian techs who constructed his body, if Obi-Wan could get them removed (At Polis Massa, perhaps?) the General would be more likely to help Obi.
Edit: Also, LoE mentions that the Trade Federation puts special backdoors into its droids. That might lend plausibility to your idea.
