It might be sounding like I'm beating a dead horse, but why do everyone think that the Neimoidians' dialect is Asian??? To me, it sounded like their accent was vaguely Highland Scottish, to be more definite. (Maybe a reference to the fact that Adam Smith, the "father" of capitalism, was a Scotsman??)

But where the heck does the idea that the Neimoidians' asian dialect come from?? (and which asian language is it in particular - a lot of languages are spoken in the continent of Asia and they are very differnet))

Perhaps from a cut-scene in the computer game Grand Theft Auto, where we hear an old Chinese man with a dialect similar to the Neimoidians??

I've seen TPM in English once, and they sounded somewhat french to me.

They don't have to look or sound like Asians, they just need at least one thing in comon with them so all the PCs out there can accuse Lucas of .

Probably because they were patterned on Thai voice-actors (according to Ben Burt, sound director). You are all correct, though, they just sounded weird. To me, they did not sound anything like Thai individuals (and I know some 1st generation immigrants), or like Asian people.

I thought they sounded like Dracula knock-offs.

Mike has talked about this, and his arguments might be more personal since he is of Asian descent.

I am of Asian decent, also, and I have several acquantances who are actually from Thailand. They sound nothing like the Nemoidians. I also do not believe that the Nemoidians are meant to be stereotypical in any way, and they still do not sound Asian to me.

Yeah, if you say that Jar Jar sounded black, does that mean you think all blacks sound stupid? It's just a funny voice they made up. Anyone who says otherwise is just tring to poe holes in SW.

The problem with writing is.... after a while, everything seems to get copyrighted, so that no matter what you write you are stealing it from somebody. I think that's what's going on in SW, too. They are creating such a huge universe with so many languages and characters that eventually they are going to do something (intentionally or unintentionally) that reminds some people of something on Earth. And since people tend to feel more strongly about what they dislike than what they like, the people most likely to make these vague connections are going to dislike whatever it is that they see. That's just my two cents worth. I'm sure this post'll remind someone else of a post they hated from a couple of years back....

My parents are 1st generation immigrants from China, and they sound nothing like the Nemoidians. The PC crowd is grasping at straws.
