New Saxton book

Post by AdmiralKanos »

People have been rumouring about a new Saxton book on this forum lately, and from what I hear, over on TFN too.

I would like to point out that this is just a rumour; there is no official confirmation of such a book AFAIK.

However, that doesn't mean it won't happen, and it would certainly be cool if it did, no?

Mayhap someone should ask Curtis Saxton himself .... well that assumes he would tell someone though....

It's on a book list on TFN ... TFN is supposed to be despised though because the guys who run it are real assholes or something *shrug*

Not assholes so much as unabashed rumour-mongers (although the people who run their boards are fundies and/or fundie apologists, and will instantly delete anything that smacks remotely of a criticism of religion). Remember some of the bullshit they wrote about AOTC two years ago?

Bullshit rumors about AOTC?

It's probably wise therefore to take the book rumor with a grain of salt- I also thought that 'worlds of Episode 2' would be more a topic for David West Reynolds than Curtis Saxton.

Dr. Saxton did not confirm or deny the rumor. He said that it was not up to him to reveal what he was and was not writing for the SW universe, and that his publisher had that responsibility.

Step forward and meet thy doom

*Clears throat*

I am looking forward to another Curtis Saxton book, I mean his was the only one that was;
  • Researched.
  • Quantifiable.
  • Appealed to a wide audience.

What book did he write? If he's so popular, I'd like to read it.

I believe the rumor was Saxton was doing a book on the planets of the SW galaxy. I think he's qualified on that subject, and could make a great book on that topic. If he did, I would buy it, because I am quite interested in the planets of the SW galaxy.

Just kidding, I don't really care. I would just like to see good books by any author come out for Star Wars (or even Star Trek, or any other sci-fi). Good science fiction is hard to come by. I'd definitely like another Saxton book.

I'm not a big Zahn fan either. He has style, but he's overrated.

Thank the maker that I do not stand alone. Zahn is over rated. Don't get me wrong, his five books are magnificant. They really flow and tie in with each other. But there's still a lot of bullshit here and there. It's probably obvious by now that I am not a huge EU fan (the majority of it is utter shit personally). While having books written by Zahn would be great (compared to what's coming out now) I hope he decides to do some research from the movies this time around. There's plenty of nitpicks to go around, but if I re read my copies I could definitely find shit in there that doesn't fly. Either way, who needs Zahn or Saxton, even Wong himself when there is an option for the only true Star Wars author. To quote a passage from Starlog as documented on the inside cover to 'Shadows of the Empire' ; "Anderson has all but assumed the title of chancellor of Star Wars University."

That's right ladies and gentlemen, Star Wars will not be complete until the script of Episode III is penned by none other than the greatest Star Wars author ever. KEVIN J. ANDERSON!!!

Go Saxton, go Saxton, go, go Saxton.
Good science fiction is hard to come by.
Is it just me or is Sci-fi quality really polarized? As far as I can tell its any given Sci-fi show is either really cool or a total piece of shit.

When people with actual life experience write sci-fi, it might be good. When pure geeks write sci-fi, it's probably going to be shit. And when soap-opera writers hired by B&B write sci-fi, the fountains of stupidity gush forth.

That's why I enjoy Robert A. Heinlein. He's the motherfucking man, as far as I'm concerned.

Wierd thing: I've found him writing of blasters and vibroblades. Are these just common things in sci-fi, or did he maybe invent the terms?
I had a Bill Maher quote here. But fuck him for his white privelegy "joke".

Check out Poul Anderson as well (now recently deceased unfortunately), especially some of his older short stories. They're both entertaining and thought provoking. Here was a man who was well grounded enough in science to write good scifi, and was also a good storyteller who could write great fantasy (he could translate Old Norse, and incorporated a lot of myth and folklore in his fantasy pieces - try "The Broken Sword").

Is it just me, or are the currently active sci fi writers just not up to the level of Heinlein, Anderson, Asimov, and others of that generation?

Those men were more original, daring, creative. Current sci-fi writers have often read an awful lot of sci-fi themselves, so they end up being infected by a lot of brain bugs and they can become quite derivative of other work.
