Why don't jedi fly?
Moderator: Vympel
Flying, which is essentially massive usage of telekinesis on oneself, is mentioned in several novels. However, such a force power would be extremely draining on most Jedi, and thus would not be used unless absolutely necissary.

Short of copyright infringment, I don't think there's any such thing as a "third party" Star Wars novel...hilaryduff wrote:Third party novels are considered canon now? If you mean EU novels, then yes, they are canon. Look here for more detailed info on the subject: http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/Misc/Canon.htmlhilaryduff wrote:Third party novels are considered canon now? As for the source, it was mentioned by Ganner Rhysode in NJO book Dark Tide: Onslaught.

Since the SW Marvel comics....anything with Lucasfilm approval is considered official. Canon is determined whether or not it contradicts what is in either the movies first or the novelizations of the movie....then goes through a hierarchy of technical manuals(such as the Incredible Cross sections) and so on.hilaryduff wrote:Third party novels are considered canon now? And consider that telekinesis can be draining to Jedi in the movies, and the inference is easy to surmise.

I see, you care to point out in the movies where they expend this amount of energy in application lasting for more then a few seconds?hilaryduff wrote:Jedi use force telekinesis on themselves all the time and show no signs of stress or fatigue. Is this just an excuse for Lucas to put pretty green lizards and speeder bikes into the movies for eye candy?
We see Speed burst, TK being applied to cusion blows, and applied to other objects, but nothing sustainable(and the most we see are for at most a couple minutes and the only being shown appreciable ability were Yoda and Palpatine, arguably the greatest practioners of their particular art.)...and the Jedi doing these feats are more then the average Jedi.

For the first point, in ESB, Yoda is quite obviously physically exahusted after he lifts Luke's X-Wing. As for the second, what does that have to do with anything?

Yoda certainly appeared stressed and fatigued after his fight with Dooko near the end of AotC. As well, he was clearly stressed and fatigued after his duel with Sidious in the Senate Chamber near the end of RotS.hilaryduff wrote:Jedi use force telekinesis on themselves all the time and show no signs of stress or fatigue. I believe Mace Windu flies in the Clone Wars cartoon, but I don't think that really counts.

first of it's mere Revan at that point and (Darth) Revan is one of the most powerfull Jedi of his/her time (the Prodigal Knight stuff Vandar says in the light side ending is no joke).Dakarne wrote:I suppose a Jedi could personally "Levitate" but not actually fly...
Darth Revan is seen levitating a few feet off the floor in Knights of the Old Republic while meditating.

irrelevant, it's the canon endingDakarne wrote:I didn't like the Lightside Ending...
Revan could retrain himself/herself from nothing to a level that (s)he able to defeat Darth Malak in weeks at most and keep to light side, so his/her skills and abilities are quite impressive.and I know it was "Mere" Revan (though nothing could actually be "Mere" about him/her)
Revan is not really the Prodical Knight, s/he's more like the "Greywalker"...

His/her personality is what you make it.Dakarne wrote:What I meant is, Revan doesn't seem to suit a Lightside ending via personality alone.
And yes, Revan could probably have beaten Sidious, Maul, Vader and Dooku at once...
How could you possibly reach that conclusion? Doubtlessly, s/he was very powerful, but there is no quantification of his actual power outside of game mechanics.

D20 System rules for each of the Afformentioned characters, and I was actually thinking of the Jedi Exile (KotOR2 Main Character) my mistakeHow could you possibly reach that conclusion? He/she reaches Level 50 (possible by exploiting a bug)
Dooku, Vader, Maul and Sidious never reach larger than Level 20 according to the Official Star Wars Roleplaying Suppliments...
So, maybe not Revan, but the Jedi Exile could surely.

that's game mechanics and thus non-canon (the only thing we know about Revan's powers that's canon is that could survive a salvo from a Sith cruiser (with Bastila's help(also the fact the salvo hit bridge and not Revan directly is important) and was powerfull for his/her time and IIRC we know even less about the Exile.Dakarne wrote:D20 System rules for each of the Afformentioned characters, and I was actually thinking of the Jedi Exile (KotOR2 Main Character) my mistakeHow could you possibly reach that conclusion? Revan is as canon as every other EU character (only Game mechanics are non-canon)Dakarne wrote:It wasn't really meant to be taken seriously as Revan isn't a "Canon" character and only appears in the Games, though someone should novelize KotOR.

so did Kyle Katarn (the Reborn from JO and JA)Dakarne wrote:Yes... but his true abilities would arise if his story were Novelised...
I do think it's safe to say that Revan is stronger than Most of the Jedi in the PT era... since he's not suffering from the "Shroud of the Darkside" and he routinely has to deal with Force Adept, Lightsabre Wielding enemies

KOTOR dark adepts are not that impressive, as the Reborns are also not that impressive. (and I know what PT means).

wrong there always gonna be few fallen Jedi, so PT have exprerience with Force users, but no as skilled as the PT Sith.Dakarne wrote:Yes... but it's a not-very-impressive Dark Adept more than Any of the Prequel Jedi had ever seen (pre-Maul)
