Tatooine within Hutt Space?
As the title says. I have been trying to find the answer on the net. So far the only info I have seen it lies in the Outer Rim territories but nothing I have read so far says it lies within Hutt Space.

According to the maps at the front of the NJO books, Hutt Space is closer to the Hapes Cluster than it is to Tatooine. which is apprently right next door to Ryloth.
Take this with a grain of salt, these maps have been known to be unreliable at times.

Yes, they would have. In fact, in Traitor, Nom Anor actually postulates that as the outcome of a Vong invasion while the GE was still in its prime.Dakarne wrote:And the Yuuzhan Vong would've been Pwned royally by the Galactic EmpireThe Hutts got pwned royally by the Yuuzhan Vong in the NJO.
However, what the heck does this have to do with the topic presented by the OP?

Okay... we'll knock off the one liners...
But from my perspective, on topic, Tatooine is Jabba's Territory, and Nal Hutta is some other hutt's territory...
I do Imagine Mafioso type workings, with many different crime bosses, who all work with each other occaisionally, but usually fight amongst each other.

My initial reply to him was in regard to his statement that "The Hutts need to be wiped out... ", to which I replied that they had been effectively defeated by the Vong. He then replies with a mostly vapid statement that the Empire could have wiped out the Vong, which frankly made no point or added to the discussion.Sea Skimmer wrote:Such as your post and this one?Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Knock off the no substance one-liners, would you?
I admit thought that I was out of step to reprimand him on it myself.

Nal Hutta actually more or less belongs to all of the Hutt clans, since it's their homeworld.Dakarne wrote:Okay... we'll knock off the one liners...

And if I recall and have just read correctly, there actually hasn't been any infighting between the clans for ages, due to their being governed over by the Hutt Grand Council.

I can imagine that Tatooine lies in/near Hutt space, or is simply very close to a Hutt controlled hyperspace trading lane.
By the time of ANH however the movies and EU seem to support that most of Hutt Space has been either militarily occupied by the Empire or at least economically subjugated.

Tatooine is on the very edge of Hutt Space, but within the Hutt's sphere of influence.Imperator Galacticus wrote:I can imagine that Tatooine lies in/near Hutt space, or is simply very close to a Hutt controlled hyperspace trading lane.
Shortly after the Clone Wars, Hutt Space was absorbed into the Empire, although their presence there is more or less simply superficial, with actual control of the planet still in the hands of Jabba. It's just that the Empire doesn't really care enough to rectify the situation, since Tatooine is only a relatively minor starport along a major Hyperspace route.By the time of ANH however the movies and EU seem to support that most of Hutt Space has been either militarily occupied by the Empire or at least economically subjugated.

Actually, I must correct myself. As at least one person in this thread has said previously, Tatooine is indeed pretty far from Hutt Space rather than being just outside of its edge. However, the Hutts still do have a sphere of influence that goes well beyond their borders, and Hutt Space itself is the remnant of what was once a much larger span of territory thousands of years ago when the Hutt Empire still existed, around the times of Xim the Despot and the formation of the Old Republic.
Anyway, to expand/revise the second statement of my previous post, after the Clone Wars the territories previously held by the Confederacy, most of which spread across the Outer Rim Territories, were absorbed into the Empire, along with various other expances, including Hutt Space.
While a Moff was appointed (Yref Orgege), the Hutts were more or less still in charge of their own territory and their holdings beyond, which is why Jabba remained the defacto ruler of Tatooine (which itself was in the Arkanis Sector overseen by Moff Julstan) even though the planet was overseen by Governess Tour Aryon.

As seen in the DHComics series Twilight, Bib Fortuna had an apartment even on Coruscant. The series takes place after TPM so Bib Fortuna was already employed by the Hutts.
Although it doesn't say, perhaps the apartment was a minor Hutt office overseeing Jabba's operations on Coruscant, seeing as there were Klatooinian & Whiphid guards there? The operation might not be much considering tight security on the planet compared to the Tatooine, but I'd think this might be evidence that Hutt activities is as far reaching as the Core Worlds.
So a sparsely populated planet like Tatooine as one Hutt's off-sector base of operations is not such a stretch.
Perhaps Hutt Space is only the area where Nal Hutta is located, surrounded by the systems whose people are indentured slaves to them, like the Klatooinians, Niktos and Vodrans.

The Hutt's business and crime activities actually spanned across the whole Galaxy, beyond their exclusive territory and direct sphere of influence.Old Plympto wrote:The operation might not be much considering tight security on the planet compared to the Tatooine, but I'd think this might be evidence that Hutt activities is as far reaching as the Core Worlds.
The difference though is that the Arkanis Sector is actually in the Hutts' sphere of influence rather than Tatooine just being a base of operations. So a sparsely populated planet like Tatooine as one Hutt's off-sector base of operations is not such a stretch.
Hutt Space is actually almost as large as the Core in terms of size and territory covered, with a little more than half being in the Mid Rim and the rest in the Outer Rim. While there is no definitive number yet on the number of planets in Hutt Space, estimates range from several hundred to about a thousand.Perhaps Hutt Space is only the area where Nal Hutta is located, surrounded by the systems whose people are indentured slaves to them, like the Klatooinians, Niktos and Vodrans.

The territory considered "Hutt Space" may have changed in borders before, and after the reign of Palpatine.

The maps in the NJO books follow something called a timeline, i mean the politcal galactic map is a reflection of time. Now the only quote to appear in Star Wars in the movies that say Tatooine is in Hutt space is in TPM. Its made by a Naboo Royal Guard. Now TPM took place some 50 years before the NJO maps, In that time the Empire happend and placed a garrison on Tatooine, now if Hutts controlled Tattoine they didnt control it once the Empire came in. Therefore the reason that Tatooine isnt in Hutt Space on the NJO maps its because Tatooine isnt in Hutt space during the time of the NJO

Panaka's actual quote was "[Tatooine]'s controlled by the Hutts." It might not necessarily mean the planet's in Hutt Space. Perhaps during TPM's time it's like what Hawaii or Guam is to the United States.
Looking at the official map, it appears that Hutt Space is the size of several regular sectors, perhaps substantially more if you consider depth. Are there any official literature that says that Hutt Space consists of many sectors or the entire region is one sectorless area known only as "Hutt Space"?

Hutt Space is basically considered a sector by the Empire.

The hutts were once an influential power, how exactly did they get to that stage? They're physically inept at anything other than giving orders and eating.
Any ideas on how?
