SW Wiki Under Attack By TFN Trolls

If you value SW Wiki from the regular Wiki cesspool, I suggest participation here. McEwok (Arkady Hodge) is spreading his "Waa! I want my WEG SSD numbers back!" bullshit there.

Indeed, the WEGites have become openly trollish as of late. Why the fuck do they have to maintain such an unhealthy obsession with refusing to admit a mistake in an old piece of literature? It reminds me of fundies.
"Lo, and WEG did speak to the masses. Eight kilometres be the length, for thine eyes deceive thee. I give you these commandments to honour and obey."

They probably spent enough money on WEG material when it came out that they have too much invested in it to just dismiss it over objective evidence.
I've never bought, nor will ever buy, a WEG book, so I don't give a fuck if it's full of shit. But when you spend hundreds of dollars on sourcebook after sourcebook, your perspective changes (I guess) to the point that you stick up for the material even when it's wrong, because you've spent enough of your resources buying it so it BETTER fucking be right.

While that is true for some people, I would think that saner people who bought WEG material would just alter it to fit the evidence.

I'd have long ago switched to WotC, which actually works better in Canon.

Damn kids are worshipping the wrong WEG material!!
Uphold the
RPG rule system, not the poorly/non-researched stats! Now we've let D6 slip away from Star Wars but refused to let go of the easily-revisable information...

I've been GMing D6 ever since 1989. I've bought tons of WEG books. But in any of my campaigns there're no 9 km Super Star Destroyer bull crap (None earlier because I've never needed to use an Executor-class then, none later cause I know better because of SWTC). And all ISDs are called Imperator-class by me & my players.

I doubt anything could top either this site or SWTC

Hell, Uts and I have 23 WEG sourcebooks, totalling about several hundred dollars, and even we know what in the books is BS and what's worth keeping.

Guys, guys.
You make it sound so dramatic. So McEwok (Arkady Hodge) created an article about the debate. Big deal. It's not like he tried shoving his numbers into the regular article...
WEG material isn't all bad anyway. Alot of the numbers are off or minimalist, but there's a bunch of real gems in there as well, such as the organization fo the Imperial armed forces and the distinction between the Army and ST Corps. It's a pity that the good stuff is largely ignored while the shit is swilled incessantly around.

Can anyone help with the Maarek Stele article? (I recall I put WAY too much in it. Also, can anyone confirm the existence of the tan, much less that Stele is one?)

I bet you saw the version after that guy whose IP begins with a 86 went and worked on it. The version before that wasn't as good.

None of the stuff is really a gem. There is bad stuff, there is OK stuff. It is just that the bad stuff is so bad that the OK stuff looks good.

ok... non-RPGer here... What is this argument about? The wrong specs for a Star Destroyer? Can some one lay it out in "dumbass" terms for me?

Basically, WEG says that the Executor is only 8 km long, rather than the canon length of about 17.6 km.

Well the regular SD is 1.6km right? If that is true, why doesn't some one just pause the fucking movie and measure. Seems like that would solve any cannon issues. There's got to be at least on good scene for that.

They don't believe their eyes, to put it simply. Others use what Darth Wong might call Literary Methods and think the visuals are not definite, just impressions.

Ha!! Isn't that what math is for? Figuring out all that shit out... angles, distance, relative size and such?

Yes, we used the infamous picture with Executor and two Star Destroyers in orbit over Endor (find it in SWTC) to explain this. It takes ten posts just to get them to understand that the shuttle looking larger in the frame (because it is closer) is an affirmation of the method, not a problem!
After they understand it, basically they trust the books more than themselves. Very sad.

To elaborate a little on what Spanky said...
WEG (West End Games) pulled some numbers out of their ass for their Star Wars RPG. A lot of these numbers ended up in other books, such as the Essential Guide to Vehicles, and Vessels. Skip ahead a bit, and some people with brains did some scaling, using the movies, and found that WEG's numbers were wrong. Now with most people, myself included, when shown the evidence of a 17.6 km Super Stardestroyer, and a 900 km. Death Star II we said "Whoo hoo, that spells party with the king, baby!" Unfortunately, as is with a lot of things, when some people are presented with evidence that contradicts what they've thought to be true, they kick and scream, and hide behind a wall of ignorance. Because, hey, heaven forbid, they're wrong about something.

is there any G level (did I get that right?) cannon on the subject. Did he say like: "Yeah, I wan't a REALLY BIG ship that looks like a Star Destroyer. But 11 times longer!!" Or maybe some info from the actual model makers?
And thanks for all the explanations.

look under Executor-Class Star Dreadnought or Warships of the Empire.

Actually, I find Anthony Tully's site the best when it comes to the length of the Executor as his 1980 observations are very interesting:

One comment about the WEG material, in their journal, they had Zahn writing a pretty good story that lasted for a while, wish it was made into a complete novel.
