Blocking blaster fire

In ESB, Han draws his blaster and fires several shots into Vader's hand.
Was this a result of his suit/cybernetics, or did he block the shots with the Force?

Force.
OLD TOPIC.

I would sworn that I saw a little smoke come out of his hand. Am I just insane?

Given his suit resistance to lightsabres I'd say it's the suit. He couldn't have drawn his sabre in time so he took it on his armor.

Jacen Solo does this in Traitor, also.
It should be noted that Kyle Katarn can push away turbolaser bolts in Jedi Outcast using the force.

Turbolasers?
Damn. That is powerful.

Turbolasers? Sorry, I meant to say blasters. Although he MIGHT be able to push away turbolaser bolts as well. Let me crank up the game and give it a shot...

Yes. Kyle Katarn can force push away turbolaser bolts, as well as deflect them with his lightsaber.

Yes, and the games are such a reliable source.
I still think Vader blocked them with the Force.

Of course it was the Force. The Force isn't just another superpower that grants its users limited, defined abilities; it is limitless. There isn't much that a skilled user can't do with the Force.

Weird, I never in my entire life questioned whether it was The Force or his suit. I have always just assumed it was The Force.

I always assumed force. Like ... it's a glove.

Without the Force, it would have taken his hands off, as the gloves most likely do not contain the same materials as his armour does.
Also, when the bolts hit, I don't think they produce any recoil.

It's the Force. Corran Horn can do the same thing, and often does in the book I, Jedi.

And it's supposed to be a rare and nearly unique gift to be able to do that as naturally as he does.

Who (which character or narrator) made that claim?

The Bodo Baas Holocron.

Maybe the fact that it's rare to be able to do it naturally doesn't mean much. Other Jedi can probably use it, but only with training or insanely high force sensitivity, as is the case with Vader.

That was what was said. Corran (and all Halcyons) were good at it instinctively. Whereas most Jedi Masters would be hard pressed to equal the same feat.

On the other hand, IIRC, doesn't Corran (and other Halcyons) lack strong telekinetic prowess?

Yes they do. Most seem to lack it almost entirely.

Yes, but they can boost their aptitude in that area by using the energy drawn in from "catching" blaster bolts. (at least, Corran can)

This is a tough call, that I believe has been shat on many a time. In the novel it clearly states the shots were deflected by his gauntleted hand. They splashed against the wall shooting white shards out. In the movie however, they hit his hand and sparks shoot out. I didn't think a glove would be able to handle the four or five shots that it did, never know in Star Wars though. It looks like it might have been the glove, there might have been some force involved as wel.

If the Empire can make a glove that can withstand two bolts of heavy blaster pistol fire, I've got to wonder why they don't make body armor out of it instead of using thick ridged panels though which such fire is at least incapacitating if not lethal.
Seems more likely he absorbed or dispersed the bolt with the force.

To me it's a combination of both. The glove wasn't exactly unfazed by the shots, it was scorched. An unprotected hand might have suffered burns anyway, even with the force protecting it.
