StarWars Swears and oaths.

HHGTTG has 'Zark' 'Zarquon' and of course, Belgium.
Neo BSG has 'Frak' and Farscape of course has 'Frell'
What sorts of swears and such does StarWars have? What would a Rebel or a Trooper say just after doing something incredibly stupid? I would imagine anyone in the Empire saying "In the Emperors name" or, "Holy Palpatine!" But is there anything else in the EU and such people know of?

"Stang" is Alderaanian is origin, and basically corresponds to an exclamitory "shit."
Other than that, not really much I can recall. Most of it seems to have been autotranslated, such as when Han says "damn fool" and "what the hell are you doing?" in ANH.

I seem to recall "kriff", although that might just be the ASVS'er in me.

Spast... Kyle Katarn uses that at least once.
Along the lines of Shit...
There's also Sithspawn, an insult.... which actually means something when applied to Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.

According the Republic Commando loading screens, fierfehk (I've definately spelled that wrong) which is huttese for "poison" is used as a curse by some clonetroopers.

OT-- Magnus, what's that in your av? Looks like a Predator...
On topic, hmm. Wars is remarkably clean as far as cussing goes (almost as if there was an editor somewhere overseeing who was writing and monitoring their language
), and I think we've about covered it... 'Sith' type exclamations along the lines of 'sithspawn' and 'sithspit' are fairly common, though. I also seem to remember someone saying something along the lines of 'droyk' at some point...

Every language, planet, and culture has its own collection of cuss words, so a list would be pretty long.

Okay... based on the million inhabited worlds quote... multiplied by the amount of Languages listed on this planet alone... (just counted the Wikipedia List of Languages, so it may be inaccurate)
790,000,000 different languages...
Or we could go for the 6,000,000 quote from C-3P0

There's always "poodoo".
And in the SpaceBattles storyline I'm involved in, I use "by the souls of Alderaan" sometimes when a person is incredulous about something.

I'm sorry but that's simply hideous logic and math. That would be assuming that every planet in Star Wars has hundreds of cultures and that none of them cross over to other planets.

I did say that it would be inaccurate...
And I apologize... I was just saying: C-3P0 Probably doesn't know every single language in the Galaxy... and there's a lot of backwards planets and cultures still out there.

Yeah. Even here we have a single language that's used *almost* all over the world, and maybe 4-5 major languages; those being English, Chinese, French, Spanish (especially in Latin America), German, and Arabic. True, there are zillions of other languages and dialects, but those six are the ones used most all over the world. I think your estimate needs a little revising...

Well, theres "Emperor's Black Bones" and the ever popular "blast."
And the Vong seem to have a fair number of incomprehenisable swears, mostly relating to one being an infidel of some sort.

If you is tokin' ta me, it's Atavars weapon-sheath from Atavar II.
Oh, and in KOTORII the term "schutta" seems to be in fairly widespread use.

In Zahn's Hand of Thrawn duology (and possibly in the Thrawn trilogy) there was shavit, which seems very similar to 'shit;' in Vision of the Future, Mara curses, at one point, "Oh Shavit."

Not mentioned are a few Huttese ones (I have no clue on spelling) Echuta and Hojo (Sebulba yells it after he loses the podrace).
Also there's the infamous "don't fuck with a Jedi master, son," though we don't know if its fuck or something remarkably similar, since it was conveniently cut off.

I will never, ever, in a million years understand what Stackpole was smoking when he decided that "Sith" would be a negative term to the public in an empire where the Jedi were painted as boogiemen, and lambasted as such by a propaganda machine effective enough to nearly wipe out their memory in a mere generation.
Then again, Stackpole is severely overrated.

Stackpole is frankly an idiot. The term Sith should be rather obscure by that time in the Galaxy.
Nobil Ire: Heh, I had totally forgotten about "blast."
The problem I have with some of these curses is that they don't sound real, rather they sound silly. I don't mean things like "blast," "stang," and "shivat" but shit like "by the Emperor's black bones." That's just idiotic and lame, not to mention completely fake.

The term Sith is probaly the SW equilevant of witch or devil by the of the movies and the Jedi/Sith were the only ones who knew what it truly meant.

Well, it was originally Mark Hamill in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and then it got repeated somewhere in one of the books. Either that or I'm hallucinating, but I distinctly recall reading it in a book as well, conveniently censored by a passing airspeeder.

From KOTOR 2: Schutta
From what I gather, it basically means bastard and/or bitch.

*Puts on SoD hat*
Actually, this makes at least some sense. As far as most of the Empire knew, the only Sith in existance was Darth Vader, and he was made out to be a boogieman. As seen in Truce at Bakura and RotS, almost no one knew that Palpatine had any ties with the Sith, or that he could even use the force. To most Imperial citizens, the Sith were evils of the past, villans in ancient legends and the perpatrators of the Clone Wars. Yes, the Jedi were also painted as evil, but that does not mean that the Sith were good to them. I would imagine force-users off all types were painted as evil and devious by Palpatine, both to help in the Purge, and to give his force-endowed agents more of a sinister mistique (this also increased the perception of Palpatine's power and good intentions. "Look, he can control Darth Vader. What a great and powerful man.")
