Will the PT Box Set be released along with ROTS DVD?
And does anyone have info on whether the PT Box Set will be different from the existing TPM & AOTC DVD (and soon to be released ROTS DVD).

Read that they wanted to make some changes to TPM, especially digital Yoda. Any confimation? (Crap, Lucas is gonna grab my money again...)

There is no PT box set planned at this time.

TPM, AotC, and the OT box set are getting a rerelease on the same day RotS comes out, but there are NO differences with them whatsoever from their previous releases, as far as I know, and I tend to keep up with this shit. So no digital Yoda in TPM.

Well that's a relief. I see Wal-Mart stocking TPM and AOTC already.

I've probably spent more money on different copies of SW than anyone. I don't mind givin up 50 bucks now and then for somerhing i love.

Lucas needs to create a website called "StarWarsUpdate.LucaFilm.com"

It would let you download critical updates for the Star Wars movies, patches and fixes.

The only critical update would be to remove any trace of Jedi Rocks.

"Jedi Rocks" is seriously the only SE addition/replacement in the whole trilogy that I actually hate. Everything else I frankly don't really have a problem with, but I simply cannot stand "Jedi Rocks" compared to "Lapti Nek."

Although I also do prefer the original version of the Emperor's hologram in ESB, but that's only because I just think it looks better and makes the Emperor more mysterious and is a good buildup to his final reveal in RotJ. I was never bothered by the change of Lapti Nek to Jedi Rocks (aside from the name.) Neither are particular favorites of mine, so I never understood the complaint about the change. Personal taste I guess.

The "Jedi Rocks" sequence hadn't been bothering me, but after I watched the original version of ROTJ for the first time since '97 a couple of weeks ago, I realized how much I miss "Lapti Nek". In comparison to "Lapti Nek", "Jedi Rocks" is dreadful.

I don't mind Ian in TESB though.

I don't mind the new Emperor in ESB, either. I'll just always think that the original version was superior.

Lapti Nek seemed more "alien." Plus the CGI in Jedi Rocks looked very cartoony and fake. I realize Lucas defends his choice of CGI on the DVD, but c'mon, THOSE CGI creatures are some of the least convincing, other than CGI Jabba) of any of the CGI used in any of the SW movies to date.

The extra comedy of the scene was apparently what he "always intended" but I think it was a bit too much. Jabba is turned into a cartoon character with this and his new appearance in ANH. Was Lucas afraid kids of today would be too scared (I have read several testimonials of kids in the 80's being afraid of Jabba or those scenes) and thus it needed toning down? (perhaps like the deletion of the burning shirts from the Imp officers in ANH.

Yes it's all based on personal preferences obviously. Like I said, the new CGI looks a bit too cartoony/fakey, less alien, more slapstick, and yes there's the nostalgia that's killed because the scene I grew up watching is not longer there. There's a similiar "wtf" feeling with the change to Anakin's spirit at the end. The scene I grew up with is no longer that way. I know that in Lucas's mind "well if people got used to something for 20 years, too bad, it was wrong that whole time and not what I always intended" but saying that he kinda sounds like a bit of a jerk, doesn't he?

Not everyone feels a duty to accept all the changes as improvements, clearly, we all pick and choose what we like and don't like. Many of the changes just seemed insignificant. Both in what they change and why they were felt to be necessary at all. Sadly many of the changes stick out like "hey look, we threw in some cgi here" or "hey look, we changed this, wink." So, as one critic said, "it makes you focus on how the scene was done" instead of what you're supposed to do, which is watch the movie and this is just another detail that's part of the seemless whole.

The line delivery for the old Emperor and Fett were superior to the new ones. Changing Fett's voice just seemed unnecessary and seemed less scary. It seemed a shameless attempt to remind people the Prequels existed than anything else (much like the Hayden ghost). In other words, this wasn't a case of something he "always intended" (Fett) or that was necessary because of the story (invent any explanation you wish for why their voices don't sound identical seperated by 27 years of adventures apart from his father).

The problem I have with "Jedi Rocks" is that it's so in your face and obnoxious, while the song itself sounds incredibly dated (you can tell it's from the mid-1990s), and frankly just doesn't fit in with the rest of the Max Rebo Band's music heard in the film. "Lapti Nek" just simply fit in better and didn't stick out sorely like "Jedi Rocks," not to mention that the song itself was simply better. I even have an MP3 of it from when they actually released it on commercial recordings.

I wish that George Lucas would pioneer a revolution in the usage of DVDs with the following feature:

Choose your own scenes! Let's say you want to watch Return of the Jedi, the default setting will be what Lucas wants and it will be what is considered 'canon'. However, nostalgic folks can go to the options menu and change shit around 'till it suits them. So they can have the original version, Lucas' new version, or anything in between.

Of course, the chances of this happening are about the same as my chances of threesome with the Olsen Twins (believe it or not, I came up with that idea just for this post). But one can dream...

They already have that: it's called seamless branching. It's how the theatrical and director's cuts for The Abyss and Terminator 2 DVDs work. I don't believe it's used much because it's a pain in the ass to work with and there are also compatibility issues with some players.

Yeah, then there's also the feature of "multiple versions of the same film on the same disc" that you can just pick and view (example: Aliens Quadraligy) or on another disc in the same set (example: E.T., Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition).

2004 Edition (disc 1)
1977 Edition (disc 2)
1981 Edition (disc 3)
etc.

Done!

And like E.T. or the Dawn of the Dead set, he could release seperate packages that include the "original editions" if he wished, or only the new editions. Releasing multiple versions of the same movie is not something new for Lucas. He already releases the seperate Widescreen & Full Frame DVD's too.

Yes, Lucas does seem lately to believe in some form of Genetic Determinism, noticable with the "less independant than their host" line in AOTC and the head bumping "inhereited" from Jango somehow.

I thought having a raspy voice was a sign he'd been in many battles. Perhaps like Vader he needed the helmet to live. Or he was badly scarred. Anyway, nevermind, he's just a clone of Jango, right down to the accent and voice inflection.

Okay, so it won't be a pioneering new development. However I still stand by my comment of the chances of Lucas letting people see anything other than his 'original vision' as very low. He strikes me as the kind of guy who only wants to showcase the latest and bestest.

TFN is often full of shit, pretty much only concerned with whoring out their little community rather than provide actual news or information.

There'll be nothing until about 2007 or 2008, last time I heard. And concerning what that will actually be, the word seems pretty mum.

You could always make your own box if you have some Photoshop skills. Put together a few nice images, print it out on nice paper, glue it onto some card stock, a little cutting and pasting (literally ) and you've got a nice box set...

No, just get someone on MF.com to do it for you.
