Does this change Canon/Official and the EU?

A. Yes, in George's view -- as far as the films go -- the baddest bounty hunter in the Galaxy met his match in the Great Pit of Carkoon where --unfortunately for Mr. Fett -- the ghastly sarlacc made its home.

However, Lucas also approved Fett's comeback in the expanded universe. And of course, by going back in time with the prequels, the Star Wars creator has brought Boba Fett back to life himself, albeit at a much younger age.

Not really, since we knew it already. It's nice to have it in print though.

Do you mean we already knew about Boba Fett?

I posted the quote because it reminded me of a certain infamous debate had 'round these parts not too long ago.

For anyone who's noticed, on SB DarkDildo has latched onto this in his ongoing effort to prove "two different universes" exist so he can justify his dismissal of the EU.

No, I meant we already knew the answer given. Boba Fett fell into the Sarlacc, the End. As far as the movies go, that is. Then in the EU, he get's out before he's all digested. No contradiction, both approved by Lucas.

It's the first time I've ever seen it in an official text though.

ah, but of course

For a variety of reasons, I do not frequent SB, and have missed many of his endless tirades there. Well, maybe 'missed' isn't the right word.

I still have a lot of EU reading to catch up on. Is Boba Fett's continued existence ever justified/explained?

edit: Nightmare, you must be psychic. You posted an answer while I was typing the question.

Approved by Lucas has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

I recall he shot himself out of the Sarlacc half-digested with his rocket pack and was about to die in the sun when Dengar just happened to show up and save him. He was fixed up just as good as new after that, even though he was missing legs.

It only begs two questions: why he didn't shoot himself out sooner, and why he was half-digested when he only spent a year in there, not 500.

Of course, we can say the former was because of some problems with being digested, and the second was hyperbole from Jabba. Neat rocketpack that still worked though..

Go grab the latest Star Wars Insider magazine (#64, Jango Fett on the cover)

It has an article with all of Fett's appearances in the EU.

Somehow I guess he's entirely avoiding the "Lucas approved his comeback..." part.

Manufacturing arguments out of specially selected quote fragments is his specialty.

That, and curling up into a fetal position and mumbling "Trek is God, Trek is God, Trek is God" to himself over and over.

It's sort of like this:
Lucas: Hi, I have this property called Star Wars. I use the characters and make up new ones and make movies to make money.

EU authors: Hi, we pay Lucas royalties and enter into liscense agreements in order to use his characters and make new ones in order to write books/comics and make games to make money.

Lucas: I just steamroll over their stories when I feel like it, since I own the @#$@#$ after all. ; )
So, it's up to the EU authors to explain away any contradictions between the core canon and the EU, not Lucas.

I swear the boy has never gone to an English class all seven years he's been in 5th grade. He didn't understand what "..." meant when used at the beginning of a quopte and ended up accusing me of being responsible for his own misassumption, God I wish we could ban people at ASVS.

IIRC, Fett blew up the Sarlacc within hours of falling in. The entire Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy takes place during ROTJ, except for the flashback sequences. And I thought his legs were intact, but his skin had been melted off. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I read it.

He lost one leg from the knee down and got a cybernetic replacement.

I stumbled across that thread the other night at google. It was embarrassing to read.

Also, IIRC, since the quote had an 'it' in it, but no antecedent, he assumed that 'it' must refer to life, the universe, and everything.

Logic without context is like so much sitting and spinning...

Thanks for the tip, I will.

Apparently I forgot some details. It certainly makes the 1000 years quote look like hyperbole though.

For everyone who's interested:

I'm feeling fine and after I've collected that big bounty for the devaronian "butcher", I've retired.

Right now I'm drinking my double Jack Daniel's on the rocks at the Nar Shaada Retirement Complex.

Since I got 5.000.000 credits for the bounty I've got chicks hanging on me, even on my cybernetic leg....

Good Hunting...

Boba Fett

I don't know how many people explained it to him but it was damn near the entire baord...I guess that's where he thought the vast warsie conspiracy began since everyone jumped on him for accusing me of being at fault when he doesn't understand pronoun antecedent agreement.
