KJA's Jedi Acedemy series-somethings bugging me.
Now, you remember that when Kyp Durron navigated through the Maw with the force? I find this highly unlikely, he barely ANY training.
However then Mara Jade comes along and she says she can't navigate it because she's not trained in the force.
CONTRADICTION! And Jade was the Emperor's Hand, not some cute girl with some force potential.

So was Luke, but his control was horrible

I thought her power got bad until she killed Luuke (not a spelling error)

He also had some training from Vima da-Boda while working in the mines. Not much, but some.SPOOFE wrote:Two points:

At any rate, navigating through something like the Maw isn't a skill that can be trained too much, from what I've seen. It's more like allowing the Force to guide you--kind of a sixth sense, in other words.

I always figured that kyp was KJA's Mary-sue and therefore could do anything.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:Now, you remember that when Kyp Durron navigated through the Maw with the force? I find this highly unlikely, he barely ANY training.

Lets see, he was stronger in the Force than Luke, was a faster study, was the sole bloody focus of any KJA stoy he appeared in and When he went over to the Dark Side was almost as strong as the Emperor (at least that's the impression I got).
So the fact he was able to do something the Emperor's hand ( a specially selected Force User who the Emperor used for his dirty work and wasn't even scared of Vader) could not, despite her years of personnel training from the Emperor, should hardly be shocking.
Hey, we've seen how Jedi can have their powers "specialized" from I, Jedi (even though that whole notion was very X-men-esque). I guess Kyp just happens to be very very good at... y'know... avoiding dense objects.
Besides, we never even see Mara attempt to fly into the Maw. Remember, Kyp himself said that he couldn't do it, prior to attempting.

"Two points:

Which is an extremely silly idea, since it runs counter to established themes... which, granted, KJA would never comprehend anyway.

Any proof of this?

No, really?

Yep. In a word, pathetic.

No, that's right, I think the word you look for is "disgusting".

Acutal the Kyp is super power thing is all in the mind and thats the point
The weapon of the Jedi is the mind, Distract him and you can win
So you THINK your powerful makes you so

Kyp seems like a bunch of controversies to me. He pilots the Suncrusher out of the Maw and if you want to chalk that up to Force powers, go ahead. He also jacked Mara's Headhunter. (If you ask me, you gotta have a real death wish to do something like that)
I prefer the I, Jedi look at Kyp, where he is made out to be a planet killer who got away with it. Personally, I think he should've been squashed by that moon, not Chewie.

"Another reason I like Stackpole. He got it right about Kyp."
Surprisingly, I find myself in agreement.
To balance this out, I offer that Corran, due to his arrogance, deceptive nature and contempt for his enemies, would have turned to the Dark Side in record time.

"Did you read I, Jedi?"
Yep.
"Corran rebukes Luke for believing that he cannot trust anyone who has fallin to the D side and comeback."
Yes. At the same time, he happily kills his enemies by the hundreds, while the Imps are "murderers" if they shoot one of his pilot friends. He challenges a pirate to a duel, lasers only, and shoots him down with a torpedo (since he figures that pilot is probably a murderer, by the sick moral compass Horn employs). He is arrogant, contemptous and overconfident.
"Corran says something to the effect of, I face it, I won, you didn't, so deal with it."
Corran faced the Dark Side? Pathetic. Corran was never really tempted, never hit where it hurts. And each time Stackpole's avatar upstages Luke it comes off as looking more pathetic.

Uh, you've got that backwards. Reread this passage here:
"This is Captain Corran Horn of the New Republic Armed Forces. I will accept your surrender."
A woman answered me. "Don't you know, Invids never surrender"
"Not true of the Booty Full."
"Riizolo is a fool, but he doesn't have a capital warrant on his head. I do." She laughed. "One pass, Horn. You and me."
"You'll die." A single pass would negate the clutch's agility advantage. She had to know that.
"But perhaps not alone."........."Allow me this honor."
I wanted to do as she asked and would have, except for one thing: the Invids had proved over and over again that they had no honor.
Corran gave her a chance to surrender and she BLEW IT! He could've just blown her away without speaking, but he gave her a chance. When she decided to throw her life away, he used a torp rather idiotically going head-to-head and risking his life.

Um, excuse me, but Corran got thrown around by Exar Kun shortly before his confrontation of Luke. He was shown images of his father, mother, wife, friends, and UNBORN SON all telling him he was a fool and they hated him. That's not getten hit where it frickin hurts? Corran almost slipped over to the dark side there, but managed to stop himself. Man, I wanna hear your idea of "hit where it hurts."
