Which is the better ship?

For what purposes?

to prove that good guys can lose when they outgun and outshield their opponents.

Well, they are designed for different things, we don't really have a good estimate for total military capabilities of the Falcon, and of course the falcon needs more crew, but it isn't asting any space on Ground assault weapons and doesn't have prisoner lockdown, etc.

I can go on like this for a while.

Hmm, the Falcon is very heavy shielded, it took multiple hits from an ISD's light canons. Nonetheless, the Slave I has those missiles, the Falcon will probably be destroyed. The Falcon with it's quad lasers and missiles could only dream of destroying Slave I.

The Falcon probably has stronger shields, even though they are ficklish, in ANH TIE weapons wore them down, in TESB they took much more punishment.

But I think the Slave-1 wins.

But which one wins the cargo hauling competition? And which is the better smuggling vessel?

I would take the Falcon for its speed, but the Slave-1 should win easily in a firefight.

Falcon cause it's bigger and has hidden smuggling compartments.

If EU is to be belived the Slave I is so loaded with illegale weaponry just showing up on some planets with it is a captial offense

And its kinda lacks much in the way of storage space

Both the Falcon and Slave 1 are great for their own things. The Falcon is the best smuggling ship in the galaxy, and the Slave 1 is one of the best ships for bounty hunting. They would both be great ships, but the determination of which one to go with would probably be based on what you were going to do with it.

Slave I has an Ion cannon, four heavy blasters, a large laser cannon and at least Eight Concussion missiles and Proton torpedoes. The Falcon has eight small lasers, and three Concussion missiles, though Star By Star seem to indicate they had more like a dozen.

The Falcon has pretty potent shields and a lot more space though, the Slave I would be worthless for cargo with even the slightest bulk and would be very cramped for passengers.

Slave 1 also has mines and a sensor-stealth system. In a fight, the Falcon would lose. The Falcon's advantages are elsewhere.

You forget the Falcon is piloted by Han Solo, the most daring talented star ship jockey in the SW universe. He fly rings around the Slave 1 ( and has in several novels)
