Now, I'll be really impressed if someone names a Star Wars ship the Indefatigable!

I think it was already done, in X-Wing or TIE Fighter. Don't quote me on that though.

My favorite Star Destroyer name of all time remains Imperator. And this was before I had any idea about the whole Imperator-class controversy- those who play TIE Fighter will know it first appeared in that game.

My most hated Star Destroyer name of all time remains Corrupter. The notion that the Galactic Empire would deliberately name a ship such a thing- the very antithesis of peace and order, is fucking ridiculous. Whoever thought that would be a good name for an Imperial ship is a goddamn fool.

There has been actually two Imperial ships named Corrupter - that Victory-class Star Destroyer that served under Director Isard's leadership during her brief reign as the tyrant of Thyferra, and Imperial II-class (I'm not sure if it was type I or II) Star Destroyer that was used as flagship by Admiral Holtz in X-Wing Alliance PC game.

Of course, the Imperial ships have usually been named rather darkly - I blame the authors' intend to make every Imperial to be a murderous villain of the month and to promote that view, their ships also have sinister names - but at least those names have usually been much better than Corrupter. Accuser? No problem. Avenger? Same here. Chimaera? Mythical beasts are always good for ships' names. But Corrupter? A stupid idea, it associates the Imperial military with corruption and that's the last thing they want to do. Not good PR.

I wouldn't term other Imperial ship names so much dark as merely aggressive- which is cool.

Then there is Avarice and Virulence. OK, we got it, Shitpole. The Empire is evil, and everyone in it is evil, and they know they are evil so they name their ships evil names.
Saxton in an overly neutral mood wrote:Star destroyer names dissimilar to kind used in most other SW fiction; does this suggest something about Isard's mind-set and preferences?

That or after having to name 25,000 seperate Star Destroyers, you can't come up with anything original... 8)

I'm waiting for The Emperor's Balls. Maybe it could start a trend of variations... Palpatine's Scrotum, Sideous's Sack, Dark Lord's Nads...

I mean they've got to name every ship, right? ;)

I wonder if they kept up that scheme? Is there another spherical battlestation out there somewhere named The Left Nut of Palpatine?

In an early ROTJ script there were two Death Stars in the same area...

Maybe there was a really large, long battleship between them?
