Star Wars Movie Marathon...

I just had an all-day Star Wars movie marathon with friends. We watched it in the "intended" order, from Ep. 1 to 6, and I must say that even though I still think Ep. 1 is a piece of shit, it gets bearable if its put into its place.
Another observation is that Darth Vader isn't just as über-evil as I originally saw him, but you really have some sort of compassion for him, knowing who's really behind that mask and what brought him there.
Though the "old" trilogy still didn't take itself as serious as the new movies do, though it may just be a personal opinion.
As a funny side-note, the Magical Mystery Wonder Button Amidala uses in her Nubian in AotC to first patch the call from Obi-Wan through to Coruscant, and then directly afterwards to start? They use the same button in the Nubian in RotS. Did miss that earlier. Was a funny moment in our little group (apart from the numerous bottomless pits of doom)

Hey, I did that myself over winter break? Only me and one other girl actually made it through all of them, though, out of 12 or so people...
Still, great fun.

Truly a noble goal. Once I obtain the RoTS DvD I will definately devote 14 of my waking hours to Star Wars

Look at the screen on Padme's skiff in RotS when she uses The Button. An image of Anakin's fighter appears. It's obviously set to track on his fighters signal.

That's neat. Makes sense, since Mustafar's a big place. She winds up parking right underneath the platform where he landed, so I guess R2 saw the altercation and headed down to Padme.

Welcome to the club. I rang in the New Year with that, as I posted in testing.
I also noticed your observation about Darth Vader, particularly during the lightsaber fight in ESB. Even though it wasn't changed at all, it seemed as though there was more desperation in Vader's voice than before Episodes 1-3 came out.

We did that just before christmas. Several people came and went, and only 3 of us made it through the whole day.
I salute everyone who completes this task. It is truly a mark of greatness.

I am slowly mentally preparing myself for this. I will undertake the marathon endeavour sometime at the beginning of February, after my exams are done with. This is going to be even more trying than the Lord of the Rings marathon, which I just had its 2nd annual run in my house on Wednsday. With some short breaks, LOTR clocked in at 11:30 hours. How long did your SWT marathons take?

I did that about a week ago. I got the impression that you really didn't need to watch Episode I to get the story and understand the tragic fall. Did anyone else get that impression?

Uh...
We started around noon, and it was just a few minutes before 2 in the morning when we finished it (with some time for eating and such
).

My house's got delayed and started at 5 in the afternoon, we took a break between 2 and 3 to get some more booze and munchies (and watch some Match of the Day) and we finished at 7 in the morning.
My advice is stock up first and start early.

When I plan to have my own Star Wars marathon, I'm going to include the Clone Wars cartoon series. It's my own personal preference but I think Anakin's trial was an important part and adds its own distinctive piece to the entire saga.

I started at 9 am, expecting breaks, but we really didn't break that often. I think we were done by a little after 10.

As I've said before, my friends and I did it the week the ROTS DVD came out. Started at 10:30 in the morning with 10 minute breaks between each film and 45 minutes for dinner after III. Due to player delays, we finished about 1:30 AM. But it was worth it.

That's a great idea. Ep.3 does seem better with the Clone Wars before it.

With as few breaks as possible, the entire marathon will take 13 hours.

Well, with the Clone Wars thrown in, I daresay we'd have to use copious amounts of coffee to keep us alive through the day
But while we're at Clone Wars and Grievous... The girlfriend of a friend was watching Star Wars the very first time, and the whole "hissing Grievous" thing seemed laughable to her. Had to explain to her that there was a living thing somewhere inside him. And who Grievous was, and what he wanted, was totally oblivious to her. From that point of view, a better introduction of Grievous might've been in order, or use Dooku for this. He was, after all, introduced earlier...

I disagree. For me it felt much worse, what with all the Grievous/Jedi wanking that took place in Seasons 2 & 3. Episode I could pretty much be left out and ignored, except for a few moments like the Japper Snippet (sp?), Qui Gon, Midichlorians and who in heckfire that weird "ObiiiiiI!!!/'scuse me" alien is.
Watch the deleted scenes from AOTC to know who Padme's family is.
I haven't done my marathon with Episode III, but I have done it in bits and pieces since I saw it in theaters, so for me that's "close enough." I don't have time really, and little desire to sit through Episode I and the first part of Episode II again just to the good parts. Maybe some other time...

My marathon is pencilled in for February 4th. I had an LOTR marathon back in October(ish) and i managed to get through the whole thing quite comfortably, so i'll have to see if i can get through it all! 13 hours of Star Wars surely isn't that long?

I did the LOTR training this november to get in shape, started late at 16:00, and finished well after 5:00 (couldn't read the digits anymore) no breaks, late afternoon start, I did it...
I feel ready! Now, where did I put that ROTS DVD....

The two Ewok films are actually after the Ewok cartoon, while both are before RotJ.

Yes, I wish they had gone with some of the more "organic" versions of Grevious proposed by the creative team. I get irritated having to explain to people that he's a cyborg, not a droid.

Heh, nice. I just did that myself between Saturday and Sunday with some friends. Started roughly 10 pm Saturday and finished about 12 pm Sunday
Seeing all them in intended order was interesting, AOTC was much improved for me having seen ROTS (I hated AOTC before ROTS made it better for me) and of course Vader is a new personality entirely.
