I have two questions, both concerning Shira Brie, the self-proclaimed Dark Lady of the Sith Lumiya.

1) Did she use the prefex "Darth" in her name, making her "Darth Lumiya"?
2) New Essential Guide to Characters notes that she built a lightwhip - an ancient Sith weapon - and apparently used it to defeat even Luke Skywalker in single combat. However, New Essential Guide to Technology notes that the lightwhip is merely a whip that is energized to deal electrical damage and is often employed by slavers, slave masters and criminals. So what actually IS a lightwhip that Lumiya used? I have hard time believing that Luke Skywalker, the man who fought Darth Vader, could be defeated by a metallic whip carrying some electrical charges.

This is purely a WAG (wild ass guess) on my part, but if the whip was impregated with coriosis (sp?) ore, wouldn't it be immune to a lightsaber's cutting power and thus be much more dangerous in the hands of a skilled force user than in the hands of Joe Slaver?

Or more likely, it's just the same name being applied to two different weapons.
The real out of universe explanation is that it's probably a fuckup by the editor.

Cortosis is not immune to lightsabers. It will, however short out sabres as the fibers create some resonance harmonic feedback loop or some technobabbley thing like that... a whip, however, is basically a long thin strand, so I imagine a lightsabre could pretty much just whisk through it.

Phrick is more sturdy metal dense enough to resist lightsabers. Cortosis doesn't resist the saber at all, it just has some odd property that shuts it off, I can't think of a good explanation for its behavior.

No. At no point has Lumiya been referred to in any official publication as "Darth Lumiya." That particular usage was coined by certain zealots who erroneously claim that she is some sort of 'real' Sith instead of a bastard half-trained incompetent. She has always been referred to as "Lady Lumiya" or simply "Lumiya" (the term "Lady" being a courtesy title, not part of her actual name).

She has always been referred to as "Lady Lumiya" or simply "Lumiya" (the term "Lady" being a courtesy title, not part of her actual name).

Ahhh I see- Lady Lumiya, so they assume "Lady" = "Lord" and then go from there to assuming she was a Sith. What nonsense.

As for the question itself, its a bit up in the air. Some depictions make it seem like a fluid lightsabre, some like a bastardized cat o nine tails (short lightsabre blade, a number of whips made of "mandalorian iron" surrounding it). Presonally, i think its a variant on the Magnaguad staffs - a long thin cable with an emitter at the tip that projects energy along the cable. it would burn/whip/cut/electrocute when it hit, yet still block lightsabres.

There are two types of cortosis, one short outs lightsabers, one doesn't. Two types of light whips, one being an electrical whip, the other an ancient Sith weapon. Lumiya does not have a 'darth' prefix, however she have been named Dark Lady Lumiya.
