Old SW Concept Art

Post by Darth Fanboy »

I found this picture in my SW screenthemes, its some concept art for ANH. (uploaded for your convenience)

http://www.geocities.com/dalesshowcase/oldtroopers.jpg

The caption for it was "Stromtroopers with Han, Luke, and Chewbacca on the Death Star. " The stormtrooper leading the way is weilding a lightsaber and the others are carrying what appear to be melee weapons. Han Solo is holding a lightsaber (Im sure its Han and not Luke since theres a young looking kid behind him) and Chewbacca looks like a huge Plo Koon.

Is this concept art based more on the original script? Or an early draft of the movie? Im not sure, but I think some people out there might enjoy the peek.

I've heard before that Lucas's original idea was for the lightsaber to be a standard weapon that everyone used, instead of being an archaic Jedi weapon.

Old drafts for Ep. IV was much different that what it is today, Lukes last name was Starkiller, lightsabres were common weaponary, etc.

I recall seeing a draft of the script somewhere... It really deviated from the movie...

Yeah, theres a link somewhere on this BBS to the orginal script feat. the Starkillers and an earlier version of Obi Wan Kenobi (that was actually named Luke Skywalker) all that plus the Imperial Capital of Alderaan.....

There's another interesting picture of the Emperors throneroom, which is actually in some kind of underground cave it looks like. I'll upload that at a later date.

I believe they're coming out with an action figure of that concept stormtrooper soon, complete with one-handed lightsabre.

I guess. I don't remember what the number was, but it was a "Fan Choice." They probably have info at http://www.sirstevesguide.com.

I heard originally the boarding action from ANH was suppose to have the Stormtroopers and Rebel soldiers all using light sabers. The effect would have been similiar to a boarding action from the age of sail.

The original script also had Wookies fighting what was to become the ground battle at Endor. That would have been cool.

Oh well, I have found it on the official Star Wars site. (It's on the "Behind the scenes" part of the Lightsabers technology page)

On the original draft for SW, we actually still hear references to it. In the SW2ICS, the Bendu monks are mentioned. In the original draft, the Jedi were called the Jedi Bendu and the Sith were the ones who were a Knightly order.

Also, lightsabers were called "laserswords" back then - and George Lucas actually once referred to lightsabers as "laserswords" in an interview!!

Actually, if I recall correctly the word "lightsaber" was never used in TPM. Perhaps "lasersword" is a slang term for a lightsaber....
