Problems using force lighting

Just a question if someone can answer it or if i am just being dumb let me know
When the emperor uses force lighting in the starwars movies it seems that some how he can't stop using it once something interupts the process.
In Ep 3 fights with mace windu he is beaten (this is only for those of you who believe windu won the fight if you could put your insight to it) on the floor and tries to zap mace. Now Mace reflects it back at him and yet the emperor doesn't stop using it. Was mace some how drawning out the lighting out of him or once the reflection happened the emperor couldn't stop it. How did that work out ?
Ep 3 again the emperor fights with yoda, he tries to zap yoda and yoda start to absorb it. Now the look on the emperors face was more on the lines of "oh shit" so he seemed to have known that feedback (sorry i am not sure if that was what you would call feedback feel free to correct me) was going to heppen. Once he knew why didn't he stop it instead?... now that i think about it, it was probably not wise to stop because yoda would of sent all of it back to him... so better for both of them to get the hit instead of just him
Ep 6 the emperor is zapping luke then vadar picks him up. Force lighting is flying everwhere. At this point is the lighting is just shooting out of him as he is being tossed like a rag doll over the rail. Is he just shooting it out just to hit whatever he can or has the shock of betrayel make him lose control of the power.
