Stormtrooper scopes

A really cool touch on the Master Replicas reproduction of the classic E-11. The red matches the graphic-style we see on Zam Wessell's binoculars, her sniper rifle, and Vader's mask. As an officially licesned replica, should we consider this reproduction accurate?

Well, it does look like it might be. Still, I find it a bit odd that what would appear to be the range-finder is displaying text rather than numerals (of course, I may be wrong on that; my Aerubesh is a bit rusty).

Never mention Aurbesh again. It doesn't make sense when applied to known text in the movies, so it's more WEG garbage.

It looks too busy for a CQB quick-acquisition sight, and that crosshair looks utterly useless for long-range shooting. The blast will hit... somewhere in that area. Having tines that stop before meeting (so as to not obscure the target) would have been a better idea that those four carats.

To me it's simply a "paused" representation of what would in reality be a computerized imager, like Zam Wessell's scope in AotC. I doubt it'd simply be frozen like that.

As for Arubesh or however it's spelt, IIRC the 2004 ANH DVD replaced the english on the tractor beam with Arubesh that supposedly can be understood in reference to the EU.

I would hope not! :)

If the carats are a visual trackng system as used in Wessels scope, that would solve most of the problems. Makes one wonder why its not sending the image to the helmet. Are there any visible controls for a targetting system on the gun itself?

Considering the nature of the sight seen in AOTC, I would not be surprised of the reticle was able to contract and move, as the figures of "a completely unnamed and un-elaborated language" are plainly supposed to be able to do.

*Damn it.

lol sorry for snapping. I just hate that so many SW things (games, mods, fanfilms etc) proudly use that Aurebesh bullshit to make their name look 'Star Warsy' when just looking at images on screens in ROTJ show that it's meaningless. :S

I'm still not sure how the system would be controlled, though. I'll have to dig around for good pics of the weapon props themselves.

Its all right. I must admit to finding it irritating myself sometimes; I once took the time to decipher the markings on a docking bay wall in KOTOR 2, only to find that they were complete gibberish. :?

I suppose, in universe, grammatical structure could be quite drastically different, but its still pretty annoying.

Yeah, like whole screens not having a single vowel makes it hard to be language. :)

Because Aurebesh isn't real; why would Basic be grammatically and syntactically identical to English, just single-point letter-to-symbol transformation being the only difference? Its an entirely alien non-Indo-European language.

The text is "TARGET" and "DIST x-x M".

I would have thought laser sites would have made more sense, especially if the only showed up through Stormtrooper helmets, and in 3 different colours. your own laser shows one colour, your squad commanders another, and the rest of the squad a third colour. That way you know where your aiming, your mates, and anything your leader is pointing out.

It would at least explain while so few ST's actually used their scopes or even iron sites.

Noone with a clue ever worked for WEG? Case closed, and I wish we could just forget about the whole 'aurebesh' thing. They even name their alphabet the same way we do! Lame.

Yes it originated in a bullshit interpretation, but both AOTC and the re-revised ANH have readable Aurebesh (I guess ROTS has as well, but I haven't looked for it).

I did like the explanation that the garbled letters in ROTJ where part of some military encryption system. Blah, whatever. At least we don't have the SW equivilant of a Klingon language course IRL.

Well, there was Klingon in RotS, on the Mustafar shield display :)

Do you by any chance have some kind of guide that tells you the language? All I have is the Monopoly Version of Star Wars and on the back of the instructions it has the key.

Just for the record, the distance on the scope reads 356.

If we can attain any form of canonicity to the above picture, it would conflict with the WEG and WOTC E-11 max range of 300 m.

Yards, feet, cubits, hands, palpatine's-wangs (this one would result in a range of around three meters), inches. Take your pick.

Meters.

Although I'm a bit curious how Khyron determined the numeral value, since I personally can't even make out what they are on the scope...

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I see how he made it out, although I'd still like to know, because it's very hard to make out those numbers.

Also, I don't really see a problem with a rangefinder indicating a target's distance even when the target is out of range.

I've got the aurabesh font on my computer so I just compared the two.

At first, I thought the first number might be a two, but the stem is too long.

Actually, as you can see here the numbers are not a solid shape but the small size makes them look that way.

Also, on a side note. A few weeks ago I got tired with my display's appearance so I changed it. 8)

Still better than nothing. Pictures convince the illiterate

Up until now all we had was "powered scope".

Incorrect. I have proved in the past that the canonical imperial forces do not use metic measurements of distance. The 'sixteen decimal blah' in ESB is not kilometers.
