So Sayeth the beeb
The TV series spin-off of the Stars Wars film franchise will run to at least 100 episodes, according to producer Rick McCallum.
He told BBC Radio 1 the writing team would soon be meeting to start on the project, which would begin filming in 2008 and be ready the same year.
"Hopefully if we can make it work and everybody's excited and watches it we will keep on going," said McCallum.
The series will be set between episodes three and four of the film saga.
It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up that remains a mystery to most film-goers.
McCallum said there would be "a whole bunch of new characters" and the series would be "much more dramatic and darker".
Huge franchise
He added that it was unlikely any of the stars of the movies would be involved in the TV series.
Star Wars creator George Lucas has just completed writing the script for the next Indiana Jones film and will then begin work on Red Tails, about African-American pilots in World War II.
Following completion of that film, work will begin on the Star Wars TV series.
There has already been a Star Wars series spin-off in the shape of the animated Clone Wars, which began as three-minute episodes before they were expanded to 30-minute shows.
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released in 2005, marked the end of the end of the Star Wars saga on the big screen.
It became the biggest film franchise in history, with the final film alone taking £500m at the box office outside of the US.

So it's going to be basically a Star Wars version of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles?
Well, I suppose that's a fairly realistic outcome, compared to some of the junk fans have theorised and tossed about.

*snort* The life and times of a bumpkin farmboy...on a DESERT world.
So will we get to see Luke's first love? His first kiss? His first lover's spat with Biggs over who's bigger?
Urgh. Seriously, not really caring what he did for twenty years on the back end of the galaxy.

Smallville Tatooine style.
OK guys this is going to suck. You have the whole Star Wars galaxy and an intriguing time frame (Rise of Empire before ANH) and the best you can do is Luke Skywalker's adventures on Tatooine? It was pretty fucking clear to me that he lived life like a normal American Teenager, racing cars, girls, getting into trouble. Booorrriiinng.

Yes this will suck and suck hard.
Seriously whose brilliant idea was it to stage this around Luke prior to joining the Rebellion, nevermind that to do that you'd need Mark Hamel who's like fifty or sixty now.
This is truly retarded. They should have just done live action or animated versions of the SW comics or some other EU stuff. Shit the NJO would have been perfectly fine.
No. We get to see the ass-end of the universe in this series.

I would suspect that it will be more than the simple BS of Luke, probably gonna get snap shots to Darth Vader and Palpy doing their things off in the galaxy.
Though thats just as bad, probably gonna have Obi Wan in it as well which is completely stupid since its going to be a case of Old guy talking to himselve, Luke being a baby prick and MAYBE - JUST - some information on whats happening elsewhere.
Might even get to see Han Solo but really, its going to be a joke try to caste people who are lookalikes. Last episode is gonna have to be a long way before the OT otherwise your gonna have major issues of:
"Why the fuck does Luke change so quickly in appearance"
This isnt going to even get NEAR the problem of the graphics look issue.
Its bad enough the PT look great compared to the OT. Now you have a series that will probably have better effects than OT.

Funny, I didn't get that vibe from it. I thought it just meant it would cover the 20yrs in between the movies.

Wait a minute.... ANH is meant to be like 20 years after ROTS right ?
So.... uh how the hell do you make 100 episodes AT LEAST over a period of LESS than 20 years.
You cant exactly have a compelling story from the ages 1-5.
Ep 1 - Lukes first word
EP 2 - Lukes first nappy
EP 3 - Lukes first tooth
EP 4 - Lukes first meal
EP 5 - Enough fucking Luke
EP 6 - STOP FOR FUCK SAKE
EP 7 - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
EP 100 - JESUS CHRIST !
*World news*
The world was in shock today as multiple Star Wars fans committed suicide after being subjected to only 7 episodes of the SW series which pretty much did fuck all for the duration.
The only interesting thing that could be done in this series would be to do him in his teenagy years which isnt saying much since he lives on a dusty rock, shooting rats and generally flying around with his mates.

The bolded part pretty much had me convinced that this description makes it out to be what Trytostaydead said, a Dawson's Creek in Space. I'm hoping against hope that McCallum and the others are just blowing smoke up the BBC's asses in order to placate the question askers and keep the real topic of the series a secret.
I seem to remember that someone on this board awhile ago showed a press release saying that the series wouldn't have any of the main characters from the movies, but rather minor characters that we've either heard only a little about or never anything at all. I can only hope.

If they mean the actual life of Luke Skywalker, as opposed to what was happening in the Galaxy during that time, then it is no mystery. Any 8 year old can tell that Luke's life was entirely unremarkable and the very definition of dull and boring. He lives on the ass-end of the galaxy in a worthless dust-ball as a "moisture farmer". He
might have had some exitement during a Sand People raid or two, when he and his Uncles huddled toguether in their house pointing guns at the entrance.

You know what? This isn't true. Right? I mean, seriously, how could it be true? NOBODY, not even George, would be stupid enough to do something like this. Right? Right?

Dude that was fucking hilarious. And it sums up my fears perfectly.
I weep for Star Wars.
Weep openly.

And another thing, how the blue hell can it still be Star
WARS when it focuses on some kid growing up in the intergalactic equivilent of Buttfuck, Iowa?
I guess a Sandpeople Raid might be exciting, kind of frontiers-y, maybe the space equivilent of a cattle drive or something. But that can only go so far.
This wont even be Dawsons Creek this is shaping up to be more like Little House on the Dune Sea or like the Waltons: SW Edition.
Fucking farmers on a moisture farm...OOOH, thrilling!

Not to me-too Stravo but you have an entire galaxy with over 25000 years of recorded history and this is the best they could do!? Does anyone even like Luke? Or the shithole galactic armpit he's from, for that matter? Anyone!?

Jesus, people, chill out. That little "life of Luke Skywalker" line comes from BBC and is likely for the listener's benefit. It certainly isn't what the show's going to be about-- every source so far has said specifically that none of the main characters will be involved.

Well I kinda liked Owen Lars attitude, but even I can't take 100 episodes of him being an asshole to Luke.

I'm going to go with 000 here and deny to myself that they're going to focus on Luke. That line in the transcript probably means that the show is set in the 20 years that Luke is growing up, not necessarily focusing on Luke himself.
At least, thats what I tell myself. They really can't be that stupid, right? Right??

Well assuming that it IS on Luke and totally avoiding the utter stupidity...
The first episode would be... ?
If they put it at the point when hes born then its completely pointless. Hes a kid and all we have is him .... looking at camera, the whole thing would have to center on Lars, which isnt gonna be much since hes a stuck up farmer who has no concern for whats happening elsewhere.
So at best that episode is going to have Lars having some "major" problem with what ? the dish washer ?
God spare me.....
Its not really about Luke either so that means they have to set it roughly at a time where Luke has a modicum of intelligence... so we are talking the age of 20 - 30+... uhhh wait maybe not.
Seriously it would have to be between at MINIMUM... 7 and at MAX the age he was at ANH.
The later age would have to be less than the movie because its going to raise continuity errors if a teenage Luke suddenly manages to alter his appearance. Same goes for Lars and Obi wan - who would naturally be in this series as a "guest" novelty appearance.
So your talking about 100 episodes AT LEAST, of perhaps 10 years.
This is just ludicrous. If it was a 5 epsiode thing then ok... but 100 episodes isnt going to be feasible... not unless Lucas wants to murder the SW community.
In practicality its probably just been overstated or understated.
Luke will either be a main character but NOT the ONLY character and its not going to be fixed always on tatooine.
It could be a case of following Leia, Obi Wan, Yoda, Vader, Palpy.
However, if there are no "major characters" then this narrows the field down to people like Wedge Antilles, Wes Janson, Tarkin, Porkins and some of these random dudes that you just see for 5 seconds.
If thats what its going to be then its not AS bad as what its suggests but its not exactly going to be a thriller either. Sure, learning that Wedge was fixing the plumbing or how Porkin managed to become such a fat git yet STILL manage to qualify to fly a ship, this is no doubt interesting but out of all the material that is at the hands of the SW universe in the form of the EU after the trilogy its so much of a bad idea to keep changing the history of Star Wars.
If they start peddling in a "mini" series then just like most Series do it will have errors that conflict with the movies and generally with the EU at large.
All it takes for them to do is say Antilles was born on the wrong planet or that Corran Horns father never really died and you have two really prominent characters in the EU suddenly changed and every story with them in it potentially affected.
I hope to sanity that this is a lie and that they are making the series on something else.

Here's a tip, for both news-outlets and the people who read them:
Stop listening to Rick McCallum. The man spouts a bunch of bullshit every time there's a new SW.. ..anything.
Stop equating "20 years in between ROTS and ANH" with "20 years of following Luke Skywalker".
Thank you.

I hope you're right, VT-16.
Dawson's Creek in space would not only be wretched, but it would violate established canon that says Luke's childhood was fucking boring. This show has SO much potential, and I don't want to see it getting pissed away for some uninspired tripe like "The Young Luke Skywalker Chronicles."

Yes, that's what one has to keep in mind. That information has been tossed about in at least three press releases, and this is the first serious thing I've heard about it being
Luke Skywalker: Toche Station High. Unless there's further, explicit confirmation on this, I would be inclined to think it means nothing aside from re-affirming the temporal setting.

Wow, talk about a huge over-reaction over a misinterpretation.
He's just talking about the 20 years in between RotS and ANH, not 20 years on Tatooine watching Luke Skywalker grow up
Further, that's the Beeb article terming it like that.
Not McCallum. It's already been stated multiple times that it will not cover major characters at all.
