ISD Hangars

Just something I noticed when looking at a link in the ISD Hangar weapons thread (and didn't wish to hijack). Saxtons says in regard to a couple of screenshots...

"View of primary and secondary docking bays of the Devastator, sighting towards the aft. Note the presence of aft hangar in the secondary bay and the absence of any obvious aft hangar in the primary bay. The second (now first) image features the primary (rear) docking bay. Note the two forward hangars, the pincers and rails."

I see this completely differently in regard to the primary bay. For the primary bay I do see a large hanger aft (albeit with the hanger doors shut) and what he calls two forward hangers, to me look more like observation areas such as those on the top of an aircraft carrier.

I'm just curious if anyone else sees it this way?

Hangar to the rear with door closed

Piccie one

Observation (air controller) decks forward.. (we've seen from the hangar bay looking out and it was nearly as wide as the entire aperture).

Piccie two

Too big. The right deck is almost the size of the Tantive IV's head, which is about three decks in size IIRC. There really is no need for the air control decks to be *that* big.

in the first picture, the row of lights located at the very top of the back wall are labeled as hangar control in the ICS.

Perhaps it isn't a "Door" but a solid plate.

I always assumed that ISD's could be 'modual' that if a ship wanted an overhaul, it might remove either the primary or secondaray shuttle bays for other purposes.

The doors definitely open; an AT-AT's walking through one of the hangars behind them in the ICS. Be kind of pointless if the AT-AT barges couldn't get out of the ship, eh? :P

Why make a solid plate that looks like a door? Seeing that at the back reminds me too much of the space door slamming shut near the start of ROTS when the shield is taken out.

Oh and thanks to whomever modified my pics to links. :)

Ah yep I see where you mean.. and yeah they look about right too... I guess it's just the front bays look small relative to the ship... well that and they stick out a bit making them look a bit funny.

I believe the front hangars are used in embarking boarding parties and also in receiving TIE fighters after launch, as we see them being used for that in the ICS.

Ah ok... I should really get those books. It just seems there's such an abundance of riches on the Net I sometimes forget it doesn't have everything.
