Luke's Lightsabers

So how many lightsabers did Luke have? We know he had at least two: Anakin's lightsaber, then the one he built after Bespin. But if you recall, he threw away that lightsaber near the end of ROTJ.

So did he retrieve it, or just build a new one?

IIRC, the one hanging on his belt at the very end musical looks like the same he used against Vader mere hours before.

One presumes he grabbed it before towing Vader to the shuttle; IIRC, it clatters audibly against the floor, so it doesn't go down the tube that Vader threw Palpatine down. In any case, he's depicted with that lightsaber in virtually all SW art post-ROTJ...

How does one reconcile the lightsabre he built in the radio drama with that he built in Shadows of the Empire? Could it be that he had two lightsabres built post TESB?

There is also the matter of the alternate sabre he wears in the Holiday Special. :D After all it is canon! :P

maybe he built more than one at the same time

Quite possible. After all, you can never have too much weaponry. (In your possession anyways. If you're carrying so much you have trouble walking, that's too much. Put some back!)

Yeah, it's probable that he built more than those two, but I don't know the exact number.

Perhaps the first one was sort of a testbed model, created more so that he could get the basic principles of saber construction down pat; once he gets through with that, then, he decides to make the second one to fix some flaws and such in the initial design - you know, weight distribution, construction materials, position of switches and stuff, all that crap you're likely to mess up on your first time without someone overseeing you.

I love people saying he built one...ON ENDOR, mere hours with little to no equipment and resources  .

As for the scenario...I say he just retrieved it, sicne he didn't throw it down the shaft. He could've had two billion lightsabers but unless he had one of them stashed on Endor, doens't help with the scenario whatsoever.

The EU shows Luke with the lightsaber he built in Shadows consistently onward from ROTJ. We know Luke built a lightsaber using the Kaiburr crystal as an experiment (EC), we know he built a short lightsaber to complement his primary that he used against Lady Lumiya. And lastly, he was either provided with, or constructed a red Sith lightsaber while attempting to subvert Emperor Palpatine at Byss. It is with this blade he duels first his sister, and then Palpatine himself aboard HIMS Eclipse at the climax of Dark Empire.

I don't see why anyone would say he'd have to build one on Endor. Literally, all he'd have to do is pause for a moment and grab it back with the force. Even if it was illogical for him to risk going and getting it, he probably would anyway like Indiana Jones and his hat...

Common sense says that he grabbed the one he threw down on the way out, seeing as how he had one on Endor. I don't see why he grabbed it though, his mind was set on saving his father. Not only that, but he was also thinking he had no more need for a lightsaber anymore, as he 'destroyed' the Sith.

What about those Imperials on the Death Star he might have to fight to get out?

Oh, perhaps the couple thousand stormtroopers between him and the docking bays?

Are you just jibbering? Or just forgetting who we're talking about?

You tell me, because your last statement was literal jibberish(not that your first was any better in this topic).

Who is "he"? Palpatine? Or Luke?

You saw in the movie they had no interest in him; when he was talking to Anakin they were running right past him without a second glance. Besides, they wouldn't have shot at him with Vader over his shoulder.

No those red guys.

Oh okay, the Imperial Guards. Yes, they would have fought Anakin, but it was shown in RotS that you could take them out easily with the Force. Also, the novelization of RotS shows that Jedi-mind tricks work on them.

 Yeah, because either Anakin or Luke were up to the task of TK-ing Imperial Guards. I doubt Luke could do the 'Yoda' even if he was fresh, we've never seen him do such a feat at that point in his training. The best we got out of him in RotJ, in this respect, was some good old fashion Force Choking.

Jedi use their lightsabers only on Sith? I hardly think Luke thought his life was going to be free from any combat from now on. Also I always felt Jedi consider their lightsabers a little like Samurai consider their Katana. Isn't there some signicance to a Jedi building their lightsaber?

A lot of the lore place it , and as evidenced from the movies, Jedi enter battle with lightsabers instead of going gun slinging.
