Damn thing is suppossed to be system spanning right? Well if it is enclosed like we see above, it's bigger then a dyson sphere.

Iiiiinteresting, no?

JEEBUS H CHRICKEY?!

That is truly something spectacular...NOW that is a shipyard.

The SW universe now has another big stick to shake in front of ST's nose

(E-D's crew considered the dyson sphere a marvel of engineering. So if the Empire could build something bigger than a dyson sphere, then...you get the idea)

The fucker is not only that big, it still has the planets inside, orbiting it. NJow I want to wait and read the material that goes along with this pic before I pull it out for debates (afterall, it could just be a series of space stations DS sized that they build ships inside of rather they a dyson sphere type thing), but it is still some serious food for thought.

What's this from, incidentally? Any other images?

I wonder how long it took for them to build the thing....

It will be in Coruscant and the Core worlds, it was part of an art post on wizards.com The rest of the art is other places and some people.

Cool...and the sickest part is that this is a private organization(yeah one that is the primary funder of the Imperial mainstay symbol...still this is along the line of Boeing), not the Empire.

Jeez, I mean damn this level of tech is awesome, seriously.

I just want to tack on that not all shipyards are like this, Bilbringi and Fondor are clearly still the standard ones you envision, and a rationalization between this and Iron Fist will need to be found (possibly it will be explained in the text, maybe it was built on the outside, maybe this is just a DS sized structure).

But even if that is the case, that a private corporation built and maintains this... holy shit, this could be worse then ICS.

ouch, a private company built that thing? damn. umm... does anybody know what other major Imperial suppliers of starships, and the scope of their manufacturing capabilities are?

Well there's Seinar, but I don't think they have shown any evidence to how big they were, though I doubt they would need any huge facilities such as KDY given they mainly produced starfighters.

Hold on a sec, PRIVATE corporation or PRIVATE company?

A corporation is...well...corporate, but add the word private in there and it's a bit hazy. Do they mean that it's a privately-owned business or a full-fledged corporation?

(Of course, SW economics obviously works differently from real-world)

Private Company...

It was held by the Kuat family soley(as well as they were the designers of the ISD Mark 1 and 2 as well as the SSD, and all such variations then such...even I believe the current Republic Star Defenders)

Fondor, Bilbringi, Rontha, Balmora, Duros, Byss, Corellia, Alderaan (though they shut their ship yards down post clone wars and weren't a major producer), Yag-Dul, Yaga Minor, Yevetha, and a couple of others off the top of my head. And then each sector had its own shipyard so that repairs could be made there. And then there were the deepdocks.

Gah. That makes the uberness of the shipyards even more ridiculously insane.

The Kuat ruling famalies owned it all. The average Kuati workers lived and died building, and was born, married, and buried on caf breaks. :)

A bit of sarcasm there, but not to far off. The Kuat famalies own the whole thing, and most of the citizens lived on the dock works themselves. Beats Fondor, where years of pollution meant the people lived in crowded and dirty underground ghettos and shuttled up every shift.

Which beggars to mind...seriously the size and economics of the SW galaxy, the fact that such things exist.

I mean we have Kuat, Seinar(probably similar, maybe not as large), Black Sun(the very fact that Xizor alone provided the transportation needs for the DS2 said a great deal of it's size)...

And the Empire was the ruling power?!

I mean damn...

Amen to that, I'd just love to see the YV massacre once those babies started producing for full scale war. I betcha those bad boys could make a dozen ISDs a day, and I'm probably under-exaggerating.

Probably. KDY was still pumping out ISDs after Endor until the contract was voided.

I forget where I heard this, but it was the stats of what he empire produced a year, one of them was a half a billion TIE Fighters a year. That alone is a-fucking-mazing. What is the mass of TIE fighters?

Would 500 million TIEs be enough to rule the galaxy? Seems awfully small to me. Nontheless an amazing feat from our standards (or the UFPs  ).

Hmmm nice yard.

(as a side note, the ISD and ECS were designed by Lira Wessex, not the Kuat family)

I've been telling you and telling you Kuat is a fair system to judge the Empire by, 6 Worlds, 5 Based in Production and Housing with number 6 being Mr Pleasure Planet with lots of nice ummm "toys" for good Kuat Empolyess of the month, Toss in a few thousand Deepdocks, THOSE things up there and the Fighter Facitilies and your talking one honking shipyard

Ok, now that one is not a good comparison.

The arm contracts had been awarded 3 - 5 months prior to the attack on Fondor and it was said that there were numerous ships alsmot complete at that time. After Fondor got taken out, the NR made the call to decentralize production so that another major attack wouldn't cripple them. And on top of that Viqui Sesh was aiding the Vong. So the fact that KDY didn't ensure the NR kicked ass and took names has good reasons behind it.
