You didn't close this thread?
Holy shit- I really was the first person to post this!
I couldn't find it anywhere, so I assumed I just missed it and waited for the thread to be locked.
And this is awesome news, btw.

How "unaltered" are we talking about here? I'm not buying a DVD with shitty sound.
Ah- I see it's a combined release of the 2004 DVD and the original theatrical.
Fuck it, I'll take it.

Yes! No longer will I have to fast-forward and rewind on videotapes to get to my favorite scenes! No longer will I have to worry about the VCR chewing up the videotapes! My existence has been justified! (Well, maybe not that extreme, but I'm pretty damned excited).

So it's not 21st century, cleaned up versions without the stupid changes, it's just the oldscore version, like on 90s VHS? Won't it have dodgey matting, poor picture quality, etc?

People need to bitch about this. As in, right now because they're getting exactly what they want.

What are you even TALKING about? I've never, ever, in my LIFE heard anyone say 'yeah, what we really want is dirty, crappy sound versions of A New Hope, just like in the 70s'.

I hope they have the option of listening to the mono mix for ANH. It's better(IMHO) than the stereo mix used for all subsequent video releases.
But this is awesome news for me.

I'm getting it. I already have homemade DVDs off my laserdiscs; these discs can only be an improvement, even if they're not up to the picture quality of the latest movies.

Interesting. Guess Geroge Lucas can't get enough money...

Han shot first!
Wow. I might just pick this up.

Great! This is what should've been done the first time the movies were released on DVD (a limited set along with the new version).

If there truly was, certainly He would digitally remaster the sound and audio.

He works in mysterious ways.

My ideal theatrical DVD wouldn't really be theatrical at all- I'd still like to see some fucking proper re-do of the lightsabres in the OT (just ANH, really)- because the 2004 DVD was, aside from some good work in the Vader/Obi-Wan duel, a total fuckup.

No, because the "deliberate creative descisions" on the 2004 ANH disc might crop back up(reversing the rear channels, muting the Battle of Yavin score, messed up Krayt dragon call). The original sound mixes were brilliant the way they were.
Remastering isn't just cleaning up a few things on the audio mix, it means taking all the elements and recreating it from scratch at a higher quality.
The
USA Today article says that its a transfer from 1993, which would mean that it is likely a DVD transfer from the source tapes used for the "Definitive Collection" Laserdisc release. Hopefully this release is anamorphic, even though the transfer wasn't made so originally.
@ Vympel: But Luke being able to change his lightsaber from blue to green to blue while on the Falcon was fun!

Why do they feel the need to bundle the 2004 editions with it?

Just in case you haven't gotten the two previous releases of the 2004 DVDs, obviously!
(I only got the first, why anyone would get the second one that doens't have the bonus DVD, I have no idea)

I'll probably just give the extras to my sister. But I still resent having to pay for them.
