I've seen a few comments against them - why are they so unpopular?

They only contributed in the downfall of the Empire! And what crawled out of the Empire's ashes? The New Republic. And I think we all agree that the Empire is superior to the NR.

Plus they were that childish element thrown into the SW saga to make it more "kid-friendly." Kinda like the gungans, and more specificly, Jar-Jar.

Yes, and also those insist they are alive has given me many a headache.

I loved the Ewoks. They're some hard hitting mother fuckers.

I think the Ewoks were a lot nicer than gungans. Even the idiotic Ewok who kept hitting himself wasn't as annoying as Jar Jar. As comic relief they were more clever and less in-your-face.

Plus I have no respect for a friggin LEADER who can be mind-tricked that easily (weak-minded?)

Ewoks would totally own the Gungans in a battle.

Besides, I love the little buggers. They're just so cute when they're smoking with holes from AT-STs.

As a fully fledged ewok impersonator (carries the death sentance in three sectors and fully encouraged in two more..)the ewoks could pretty much tear anything you put infront of them apart...if only with clogging up all that expensive machinery...fur is a bitch

I personally didn't have a problem with them. So what if they came out looking like teddybears. Lucas intended them to be minature wookies.

You really believe that a 1 meter tall guy can beat you to death with a club while you're wearing a high-tech armor?

I hate them because GL pictured the stormtroopers as idiots in that battle and the EWOKS were able to defeat them...

Ewoks appeared to appease the kiddies, I reckon, and in that role they did well (even getting their own theme program/movie(s)).

But they weren't really believable; of course they couldn't hurt a downed stormtrooper in his armour with a club...

That would be fun, but only after the Ewoks slaughter the Gungans in a bloody three-hour CGI orgy of death.

I didn't mind the Ewoks themselves, but what I hated was when they somehow beat Imperial forces. That was the childish part, and in my opinion, less believable than the Gungans defeating the droid army in TPM. The unrealistic part of that battle was Anakin "accidentaly" hitting an exposed part of the reactor, causing the army to shut down.
