Anyone see this embarassing mess?

Amazingly, posters I don't recognize ever having been a part of any discussion about Traviss are labeled as part of the anti-Traviss "jihad" when they criticize this move!

It is growing ridiculous.
And not to mention, it's beginning to make the entire TF.N an entirely monetary enterprise and now fans are told to just continue help run it in a most syncopantic fashion.

They can fuck off. The VIPs came to TFN because that's where the most fans were, not the other way round.

It's cool; TF.Net has Karen Traviss as
their VIP, while SD.Net has Dr Curtis Saxton as
our VIP.
Yeah, I'm not bragging or anything. *whistles nonchalantly*

Does Dr. Saxton actually post on here? If so, what's his s/n?

monetary enterprise
Hasn't TFN been a half-official site for years already? That Limited Liability Company disclaimer they have, which meant they couldn't post explicit spoilers or pics for the last two films, or something.
And I recall one post possibly made by Saxton a few years back. That's it. ;P

Dr*S
It's interesting to note that when you do a search for that name, all usernames which starts with "dr" and contains an "s" shows up.

Yeah, that's because of the asterisk. Well, Dr. Saxton has made a few posts, but he is a busy man.

That's pretty pathetic. The whole place is a bad joke.

These people are ridiculous.
Seriously i looke dover one page of that shit and had to stop reading...the sheer gale force power their constant blowing of the VIPs threatened to pluck me out of my chair and through my monitor.
I just honestly dont understand why they are so intent on kissing ass. I guess some people just like the taste of wrinkled hack author booty.
There is a reason i never patronized the EU and its cause of hack writers like Traviss, and the idiots who prop her cult if personality up dont make it any easier to forget them.
I'm a fucking movie purist and proud of it.

What are they thinking. Just because someone is labeled as a VIP they are more important than the "non-VIP" members. They should know that if it wasn't for the little guy, their site would have gone "bye-bye" a long time ago. It is stupidity like that, that starts the vacuum sound when you go to their site.

It's not just regarding the VIP policy. Check out the 'spoiler' thread for Betrayal. You'll notice two things: one, spoilers are not actually allowed until the book comes out, and two, posting links to other message boards is now not allowed and seen as "commercial solicitation."
dp4m wrote:For those too dense to understand: DO NOT POST LINKS TO OTHER SITES THAT COMPETE WITH TF.N.
On the VIP issue, what irritates me the most about this is that all sorts of accusations are being bandied about without any proof being offered. The line is that VIPs are being "driven" away, but the fact still remains that only Traviss and Kaufman have left due to anything that can possibly be construed as fan behavior-- and, as I keep trying to say over there,
both left prior to the actual start of the fiasco. It's almost insulting to the other VIPs there that they have to be coddled in any way, since most of them have been posting longer and recieving the same amount of flak Traviss got. Once again, I bring up John Ostrander and Jan Duursema, who have recieved no small amount of criticism surrounding a project that's still a month away from publication... but still post there as regularly as ever.

They KEEP bringing up money...
I'm serious, does anyone think they're...being bribed or payed by someone?
Yes i realize it sounds insane, but they seem so
insistant this is about money, i thought maybe they're not bullshitting, maybe it IS all about
someone's money.

TFN is a Limited Liability Company, now I'm not totally clear on what the hell that means, but I remember one spoiler site bitching about TFN having some sort of "special" arrangement with SW.com or something. Either way, there must be some reason they stopped posting explicit spoilers for AOTC and ROTS, when they let the floodgates open for TPM only a few years before.

Ok i looked it up on wiki, and...its a bunch of legalese that might as well be ancient babylonian to my eyes.
BUT...
I think, if i understand, its a kind of work around so that a small business gets a 'limited liability' like a corporation, which means that a shareholder's stock cant loose more money than its value or something. I'm sure i probably worded that wrong.
So your guess is as good as mine as to what the hell that means.

Apparantly, that would make it some sort of corporate endeavour...
Maybe they are getting some monitary support from higher-ups to promote SW.... :?

A limited liability buisiness is one in which the main partner has unlimited liablity, (meaning he can lose everything and be forced into bankruptcy) but the limited partners can only lose the amount of money they put into the buisiness. Basically it's a way to invest and be a part of/have a voice in the company without being able to be sued for everything or lose it all if the buisiness tanks.
Not sure how that relates to your discussion. Perhaps some of the limited investors have seen the general situation and stopped putting in capital due to fear of loss. I don't see why they would have though.

This jewel from rhonderoo:
rhonderoo wrote:...And people, we're going to be biased when it comes to [VIP's], yes. We absolutely are. We like having them around, and we are going to treat them like we were standing in front of them at Border's or we were face to face with them. With respect and a sense of welcome that they are here. They don't have to discuss a damn thing with anyone on these boards, yet repeatedly they do.
Guess what? It's a job for them. They get paid to do it. That right there makes them more valid at what they are saying than those of us who don't. And if you think that's a terrible thing to say, sorry. That's the truth. When I get paid to write Star Wars fiction, then I might have the right to call myself an expert. Now let's get this in perspective.
Needless to say, I won't be signing up there anytime in the near future.

It's amazing the amount of kiss ass that statement from Rhonda contains.
1. They aren't at Border's. Yes, they are taking time to relate to the fans, but giving them leeway? Why? Because you're afraid they'll complain? Are these people that thin skinned?
Apparently so, even if we've seen professionals give as good as they can take.
2. BECAUSE THEY GET PAID?!
I'm sorry, a novelist is just a person who can attract fans through writing. Not exactly a profession that makes me feel they are any less falliable.

Aaaaaaaaaaand, I've been banned for posting this:
This is not an attempt to debate this policy, or troll this thread. I simply feel the need to respond here, as these other posters have done. The policy will be followed by me to the letter. Let's hope its a fair and unbiased one, whether a poster is a VIP or not. Remember, everyone is capable of being a jerk, whether the have an acronym before they're name or not.
Ender_Sai wrote:(It's also worth noting that the same people who really have protested this policy are the people responsible for it's creation, and they represent a minority of Lit's users at best)
Here we go again...the "phandom menace" who is a "minority". So small that, sweeping changes are implemented that affects the
entire Lit. board. Can we be honest and say there's a vast majority of people here that have a beef with current continuty, be it numbers or A-Wing designations, Solo brats, Star Dreadnoughts, or amusement park rides being made "canon". The minority realistically are those that simply can't take criticism. There have been VIPs here who were DAILY raked over the coals here, and not once (to my knowledge) did they ever care enough to tell a fan board how to policy itself.
Ender_Sai wrote:Furthermore, I think you completely underestimate just how much damage the people who went on the anti-Karen/3mil jihad did to the sense of community in Literature. It's a far more poisonous taint than anything contained within the VIP policy, and it tainted what had always been regarded as the model board on TFN by a great many.
(Clapping smiley)
And what about the years of constant Curtis Saxton/Star Deadnought/8km/Endor Holocaust bashing? I consider myself a personal friend of the man, and while these constant attacks here weren't the greatest thing in the world to read, Curtis NEVER wanted pro and con debate about his website or books muffled. Some people have a thick skin, and understand the need for healthy debate from a fanbase as huge and passionate as Star Wars.
Grand Admiral Wettengel wrote:Users should not be penalized for taking anything that Karen Traviss makes "fair game" by talking about it any forum that anyone on the internet can freely access, and then she cries fowl when her unprofessional rantings are brought up here. She was a journalist, surely she understands about the notion of exposes and investigative reporting; this was just a bit of detective work to expose words that she typed that cast her in a most unfavorable light.
Ender_Sai wrote:As for what VIPs say and don't say, you leave that up to us. Given that the people who've been hunting Ms Traviss mercilessly on this matter remain the least objective people on the matter,
Your subjective opinion, sir.
And patchworkz7? With all due respect, sir, (or madam), can you please refrain from inflaming threads you want to see closed? In the ODDS thread, people were debating the
issue while you constantly brought the author's name, and the "Talifan" movie for no reason whatsoever. If you don't like a thread,
avoid it. I'll be happy to discuss any of my projects with you via PM or email.

Why were you banned, Lord Poe? (Is it a temp- or a permanent ban?) IMO you haven't done anything wrong. I simply don't understand...
