"Vader has returned!" scenarios

Let's say that a rumour starts to spread that the dreaded Dark Lord Darth Vader has survived the Battle of Endor. Perhaps it is just a rumour with no substance, perhaps spread by the Imperials to bolster their reputation; perhaps a Flint-type con man is doing is doing a Vader act; or perhaps some Dark Jedi has taken up the fallen Sith Lord's mantle. In any case, what are the effects on the populace of the galaxy
1) during the Imperial Civil War;
2) during Thrawn's reign;
3) during resurrected Emperor's reign;
4) during the disintegration of what remains of the Empire and before the peace treaty;
5) after the peace treaty and before the Vong invasion;
6) during Vong invasion?

IF anything In my post sounds angry, it isn't personal. Just a general ranting of hatred towards Post-RoTJ EU.
1) Luke gets to the heart of the matter and quickly disproves bullshit.
2) Thrawn and/or Luke gets to the heart of the matter and quickly disproves bullshit.
3) Palpatine and/or Luke gets to the heart of the matter and quickly disproves bullshit.
4) Luke gets to the heart of the matter and quickly disproves bullshit.
5) Pellaeon and/or Luke gets to the heart of the matter and quickly disproves bullshit.
6) Nom Anor and/or Luke gets to the heart of the matter and quickly disproves bullshit. But not before wild accusations of Jeedai Heresy and other poorly written nonsense. New Republic decides to have Jaina Solo appear in Darth Vader armor to make the Vong feel like they're being tricked, which allows an EU author to come up with 50-75 pages of fluffy pointless dialogue for a shitty book.
For Reference, since you neglected to mention it.
7 (Swarm War) - Luke gets to the heart of the matter and quickly disproves bullshit.
Darth Vader was hated on both sides of the conflict, I can't imagine anyone would be willing to put forth the kind of deception you're putting forth.

You know I am surprised the EU hasn't done this. They brought back everyone else from the dead why not bring a Vader con man in...
...I hope no EU writers read this board...

After a certain amount of time, people would just be like "Yeah right, pull the other one."

I'm sure if Kevin J. Anderson is reading this thread, he just had an orgasm at the thought of the possibilities...

Are there any known SW authors who frequent these threads?

Seeing as I haven't read beyond the first book of the Dark Nest yet, I have to ask:
Isn't that what they are essentially trying with Jacen? It seemed that way to me. I saw a lot of parallels building.
Before anyone tells me it isn't worth it, I'm still going to read it anyway. I'm just that kind of masochist. I will, however, avoid anything with the name Cade Skywalker and treat it as non-canon trash.

You know, this is apparently a fairly common story in the Star Wars Tabloids. Every week has some headline story with Vaders mask blased across it, trying to give a little extra umph to the whole thing. Just because he's got that kind of reputation and power, years and years after his death.

Honestly? I wouldn't be suprised at all.
After all, how many times has Hitler been reported to have been spotted retired in Bermuda?

Oh yeah! One of the books does mention that IIRC. You remember which one?

I'd guess that you're talking either about the "ROTJL infinites" comics which had Vader returning to the light-side and wearing white armour, or "The glove of Darth Vader" series (Which may be N canon these days).

Galaxy of Fear had a clone of Vader, IIRC.
I wouldn't mind a Vader-conman during the height of the empire. One of Palpatine's lesser dark-siders wearing the costume, so Vader can be in more places at the same time.

Vader has been brought into the EU several times in a round about way. In Truce at Bakuura(Sp?) his force ghost appeared to Leia to ask her forgiveness, then in part 1 of the JA trilogy the supposed ghost of Vader appears to Luke, but that was a different Sith in disguise.

Um, originally they were going to have it be Vader in charge of Dark Empire, not Palpatine.
Lucas has completely banned the idea of a Anakin resurrection.

Exar kun [in disguise] to be precise.
Lucas has completely banned the idea of a Anakin resurrection.
Pity that he didn't ban a Palpatine ressurection. It also makes you grateful for the fact that we didn't have a dark side Zombie Anakin

(Which would apparently have been the case based on this).
