Big Corellian ships

What Imperial vessels were Han referring to when he said "Not the local Bulk Cruisers. I'm talking of the big Corellian ships"? ISDs?
Were KDY and Fondor Corellian-owned or based companies? Would there have been a difference in ISDs (of the same Mark) made by different companies, i.e. some faster/better armed than others?

I asked this a while back.
linky
I can't remember if we came to any sensible conclusions.

Wasn't Griel's ship Corellian make?

Saxton guessed that it might be, but there is no proof.

The ship and an accompanying carrier-vessel had Corellian standard-docking modules behind their bridges. (Incidently, this module can also be found on Core Ships, according to ICS:AOTC). A good candidate for those "big, Corellian ships", who, by Han's experience, would have to be bigger than the 600m long Imperial bulk cruisers he encountered before (there's a shorter model, but it evidently wasn't used by the Empire in any capacity).

Could he be referring to civilian, entire non-military ships of some sort?

Maybe he was just talking about a line of ships we haven't seen yet.. it's a big fucking galaxy ..

In the novelization Han says "I've outrun Imperial starships and Corellian cruisers." That's a little more clear, but too bad it's a lower level canon than the film.

the Corellians produce battleships, carriers, cruisers, and destroyers, ,and I think "bombers" - it was mentioned in the ROTJ novelization. Those are presumably some of the "big corellian ships" Han talks about.

I always interpereted that line as partly bluster. Han is Corellian, so he views Corellian ships very highly, and prides himself on his ability to outrun them.

"I've outrun Imperial starships, not the local bulk cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now."
The bulk cruisers he encountered before, were of the 600 m long variety, so these "big Corellian ships" would have to be bigger.

Or maybe corellian ships are know to be particulary fast.

Which would fit with "I've outrun Imperial starships. Not the local bulk cruisers, mind you, I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now." as the quote implies that the Imperials do use Corellian ships, bigger than Bulk Cruisers.
Incidentally, the same class of vessel as Giel's ship, which Saxton guessed to be of Corellian manufacture, is seen in Jedi Knight 2.

Ah, whoops. Looking at the line now, it's obvious Han was referring to big Corellian ships used by the Imperials. Doh on my previous post.
What ship is it you're referring to that appears in Jedi Knight 2, YT300000..?

There's the planetary assault ship used to attack Yavin, the
Doomgiver, but I hadn't noticed it was particularly Corellian in design.

The ship is going left to right in this picture.

It's similar to that "carrier" vessel that shares Giel's ship's design, but not exactly the same. :)

I didnt think the JK ship was an actual production starship, more of a special one off mobile factory unit for the shadow trooper program. Its got vast chemical tanks on the bottom hasnt it? you can just about see them on Lazarus's picture.
Might be wrong, long time since i've played JK2 - its CD explode in my drive!

IIRC those wheren't chemical tanks. They contained drop pods.

Oh right sorry
I suppose they were used with with the assault on Yavin 4
Wouldn't drop pods be a rather inefficient system for deploying troops in comparison to the existing system of shuttles? They would only be able to deploy once before having to be manually reclaimed, probably by the tractor on a capital ship (assuming it has the range for planetary work)

I'm not sure if those drop pods are capable of achieving orbit again on their own, but considering the proportion of volume dedicated to power generation and propulsion systems on other surface-to-orbit capable Star Wars ships, it's not impossible.
In case anyone is wondering, each drop pod carried four AT-ST walkers, as well as an indeterminate number of infantry. The two decks of the interior above the AT-ST bays appeared large enough to carry a few squads of stormtroopers/Shadowtroopers.
There doesn't seem to be a hard figure for the length of the Doomgiver. How large was Giel's ship supposed to be? Comments made by Kyle Katarn and Rogue Leader (Wes Janson?), as well as apparent size from exploring the areas of the ship included in the game, indicate that the ship is larger than average, but scaling against the drop pod sizes seems to show that it may be quite small.. which is a contradiction.
There are rationalizations, albeit unlikely ones, such as presuming that each pod visible on the capital ship's exterior is a cocoon containing several of the pods that you see from Kyle's perspective.
If the Doomgiver is in fact built on the same basic superstructure as Giel's battleship, perhaps that would give a clue.

I don't think it is, the Doomgiver was more elongated than Giel's battleship and accompanying carrier.

Still, it looks similar enough to be from the same shipyard, IMO. If the comics are any indication, one shipyard often churns out a couple similar spaceframes for different roles, presumably to save money.

What shipyards would the Imperial Remnant have had access to by the point of JK2? Was it set before or after the Corelian crisis trilogy of books as if it was before I see no problem for this rogue Admiral Galak buying a ship off of the Triad or whoever it was that controlled the shipyards at the time.

Isn't Kuat an EU invention? Can we assume that the ISDs were originally intended to represent the "big Corellian ships" that Han referenced?
I know that doesn't really solve the matter, but it seems stupid to me that practically all the large Imperial warships are Kuati (EU) yet we hear next to nothing about the canon Corellian ones.

That would go right back to the first WEG stuff, wouldn't it? That's the oldest stuff I remember seeing this 'KDY Star Destroyer' stuff.
